RBCC 2 DAY TOUR 2004

Inspired by Lance Armstrong's 6 Tour wins, John Buckton has taken out the annual RBCC 2 Day Tour for the second year running.  "That's 2" Bucko said, "Only 4 to go !".  It was difficult enough having to beat all the other riders but Bucko had to also beat the conspiracy against him when even the handicapper let slip in his final address, "I was sure I'd handicapped him out of it."  Here's some of the action in stage 2, the criterium in reverse direction at Heffron Park.

The terribly mean and less than impartial handicapper addresses the troops.  Jokes aside a big thank you to Chris White who basically gave up his weekend to run the 2 day tour.  On behalf of your fellow club mates, thanks Chris.

Here's Joe Gatt in action. Joe was off limit with Rosanna Fortuna.

Next group off was the yellow jersey group at this stage (Greg Smart) with big Paul "Ginger" Baker driving them along with Brett Thomas also in there sharing the workload.

Next group  off was Scotty Rice, Mike Pennell and who can mistake Rocky Fortuna hiding at the back

Here's the Buckton group catching Rocky's group.  Craig "Canada" Klement, Neil Morris, Crispin Arnell and big Andy Hall out of picture driving it.  Where's Bucko you might ask?  Well that's my blue shoe just behind the Rock.

Here's the Scratchies, Pete "The Machine" McDonald and Josh Marden going through chopping block.  I call this, "Now you see them"  Steve Horn managed to stay with the scratchies for a few laps before being deposited into the Buckton group.

I call this one "Now you don't" as the Scratchies blast through chopping block leaving bookends, Frank Fortuna and Chris "Brutus" Reynolds to ride along with trainee bookend Alan Cohen.

Tony Horneman finally worked out how to take a picture of the eventual Tour winner.  There I am (number 11).  Prospective sponsors please take note we can give you substantial advertising exposure from behind, not like these puny little cyclists.

The Machine takes glory in stage 2 closely followed by Josh Marden.  Steve Horn managed to get away from our bunch in the closing stages but was unable to catch the lead group and finished in 8th place.

"Canada" managed to escape from the Buckton group and after a huge effort in staying away for best part of two laps was able to get about 2 seconds up on the bunch on GC.  Well done Canada.

Here's the bookends finishing.  The Apprentice is winning more sprints than the Master now.
