Note: The Human
resources required to conduct criterium racing at Heffron Park on a year round
basis is quite demanding. The only way to accomplish this human
resources demand is to call on our membership for assistance. As part of our Duty of Care to racing
cyclists, RBCC rosters race marshals and first aid officers EVERY race day.
This is for your own safety. In order to facilitate racing we also require
commissaires and assistance at the registration desk, together with people to
assist with set up and put away. You may be called upon to
assist with the above mentioned duties. Generally you will only be called upon once
per year to perform a compulsory membership duty. Having said that, it is still not compulsory that you perform the duty
personally just that you take responsibility for it getting done. In other
words, if you can get another rider or some other responsible person to perform
it for you then you will be able to race with our blessing.
Unfortunately, there is a small minority who fail to attend despite the fact
that they are emailed and/or phoned in advance. This behaviour lets
everyone down and could, if we were unable to find someone else to perform the
duty, see racing cancelled for the day. We have tried everything to try
and ensure that all rostered assistants and safety marshals attend. If you fail to attend without having
notified the Marshal co-ordinator (Richard
Jenkins) and/or given reasonable excuse or reasonable time to roster someone else,
you will not be allowed to ride again until you perform safety marshal duty.
