UCI MASTERS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Congratulations John Collette and Gavin White.  John And Gavin pictured left and right respectively both were runner up World Champions in their respective age divisions in the UCI Masters World Championships in the Men's Time Trial.  Both are pictured wearing their Brennan IT team uniform.  Brennan IT is RBCC's major sponsor for 2010 onwards.  John had an agonising wait as he set a fantastic time (PB) in the second heat and held onto fastest time till the last heat when he lost the Rainbow Jersey by hundredths of a second.  Well done boys.

The boys rides and all the action can be seen at http://www.cyclingmasters.tv/

CONGRATULATIONS GIRLS - GOLD MEDALISTS STATE TEAM TIME TRIAL.

Congratulations, Sarah Roy, Tania Newton, Sue Henry and Sheryl Rotondo who took the Gold medal in the NSW Club Team Time Trial Events at Calga on June 14, 2009.  RBCC was well represented with some 7 teams.  Just as well the girls got a medal because the best the boys accomplished was a shake of the hands of the winners.  Congratulations to our Under 150 year Masters team of Sam Gilbert, Richard Westmoreland, Matty Lucas and Willem ter Avest with a great time of 1 hr 2 mins for the 40 kilometres which would have put them on the podium last year but this only graded them 8th.

The Dream Team, Big Bazza Mourad, John Buckton, Dave Lippman and Chris White were right on target with our goal time of 1 hr 7mins (which is 2 minutes faster than our PB) but again it only got us 5th overall.  Left the President of RBCC is pictured with the Gold Medalists.  No offence "Dream Teamers"  but this was the only way that I was going to get in a gold medal photo.

Congratulations to all those who represented their club and had a fabulous day.

For more action photos of the teams, including the "Dream Team", click here.

GET WELL SOON WARREN WILSON

Our good mate Warren recently suffered a stroke.  He is currently in the Stroke ward of Shoalhaven Hospital (in Nowra).  He is as sharp as a tack as always.  Unfortunately the stroke has affected his speech (he is very hoarse and it is an effort for him to speak however that wont stop him telling a few jokes or retelling a few old war stories).  The stroke has also affected his vision and his mobility and he has a lot of work ahead to get back on the bike.  If you are down that way he would certainly enjoy a visit to lift his spirits. I know a recent visit from Rocky & Anna Fortuna certainly did that.   Our prayers are with  Warren to make a speedy and hopefully full recovery.  Get well soon Warren.

2009 BLAYNEY TO BATHURST

Some 45 Randwick Botany riders competed in the weekend's events including the State Hillclimb and criteriums on Saturday and the feature event, The Blayney to Bathurst on Sunday.  I have never seen so many Randwick Botany riders at an Open event.  It was absolutely fantastic.  Some of the bunches looked as though it was the start of a Randwick Botany Club Championship event rather than the 110km Blaney to Bathurst Road Race.  Some excellent results achieved.  Although we have to give it to the girls overall.

Full list of results here.

Our Biggest achievement had to be Fastest Woman in the 110km event.  Congratulations to a most deserved champion, Tanya Newton, pictured left, who took the podium with fastest man and overall winner, Dean Windsor. Tanya  was alsoawarded the Bronze medal in the NSW State Hillclimb championship the previous day, so a great weekend for Tanya.  Congratulations also to Sue Henry, pictured right, Gold medalist in the Masters 2 Womens hillclimb and Anna Murray who took gold in the Masters 4 Women's event.

Congratulations to Angus Gale who won the Division 2 criterium with a highly improved and very in form rider, Nathan Bonarious taking third.  Good work boys.

RBCC EASTER TRAINING CAMP at COOTAMUNDRA on Fri 10 April to Mon 13 April

The Easter camp at Cootamundra despite their only being a small number of attendees, was very successful and very enjoyable.  Four magnificent days with a little warm-up ride Friday afternoon, then the 3 planned rides on Sat, Sun & Monday.

Thanks to the Gemma and Tony of the White Ibis Hotel at Cootamundra for looking after us and providing a great  social venue where, in an atmosphere of belly aching laughter, a few tall stories were told over a few quite drinks after the days riding.

See report and photos here.

A great win and even more special as Graeme is now a member of the Randwick Botany Cycling Club.  Above, I welcome him to the club and wish him luck over the for coming series.

Round 3 in Geelong and Graeme takes victory in a sprint off with Robbie McEwan moving into first place overall and taking the yellow jersey.
