Phyllis
Gilbert is the daughter of Snowy Wilson – the longest serving Secretary of
the Randwick Botany Cycling Club. Phyllis was born in Botany in 1923 and is
now aged 79. She lives in a tranquil location on Dangar Island near
Brooklyn on the Hawkesbury River. Her family was one of the first to settle
on Dangar Island.

Incidentally, Phyllis told us that she took after her dad in many ways.
One does not have to be Einstein to work out why her dad was called "Snowy"
or "Snow" Wilson. |

Helen and Fred Vella, John and Joanne Buckton and Tony Horneman enjoyed
a delightful lunch with Phyllis on Sunday 19 May 2002 at Brooklyn.
Phyllis showed us some photos of Snowy during his time with the club as
Secretary from 1917. Snowy also performed the role of club handicapper
and occasionally first-aid attendant, cleaning up gravel rash after
falls. Snowy worked full time at a leather tannery. |

Phyllis showed photos of the Annual Club Presentation nights, held at
Coronation Hall, Coward Street, Mascot. Phyllis’ late husband Aub was also an active
member of the club, performing the role of handicapper for many years. |

The Club presented
Phyllis with photos, program and press clippings from the 2002 Snowy Wilson
Memorial Open, a club jersey and two bottles of Stanmore Hill wine, courtesy
the Newington Inn. We hope to keep in contact with Phyllis and invite her
to the 2002 Annual Presentation night and 2003 Snowy Wilson Memorial Open. |
