PRESENTATION NIGHT 2002
The Randwick Botany Cycling Club held
it’s annual Presentation Night on Saturday 14 December 2002 at The Newington
Inn, Petersham.
Nearly 100 club members, family and
friends gathered to acknowledge the excellent performances by club members
during 2002. Special guests included: Lionel Cox, who competed in the 1952
Helsinki Olympics winning gold in the 2000m tandem race with Russell Mockridge
and silver in the 1000m sprint; Anthony Spurgeon, the “King of Heffron Park” and
Anthony’s mother Jenny Spurgeon; Arthur Donnelly, Cycling NSW Commissaire and
Chris White, club major sponsor from the Newington Inn. Chris was also the MC
for the evening.

Lionel Cox presented the female club
cyclist of the year award to Oceania Champion, U17 rider Brittany Orr who
won the National U17 Time Trial championships and the New Zealand National
Championships in the U17 time trial and road race. Brittany is also the
current New South Wales U17 Women's Individual Time Trial champion and
Hillclimb champion . The male cyclist of the year was Shaun Higgerson who
placed second in the National U19 Time Trial and is the current dual NSW
Hill Climb Championship and Individual Time Trial Champion and was Captain
of the gold medal winning Men's U19 State Team Time Trial champions.

Joanne Buckton was named the club
person of the year in recognition of the major contribution to the
administration of the club during 2002. Above Joanne is seen accepting her
award from the reining "King" of Heffron, Anthony Spurgeon. Helen and
Fred Vella were also awarded with a fabulous night out for two, for their
outstanding contribution to the club. |
The Randwick Botany Cycling Club will
celebrate it’s 100 year centenary during 2003. The Centenary dinner is set down
for Saturday 15 November 2003. Venue and details will be available in the near
future.
