Pat "Paddy" Jones won this
year's "Mongrel" award. This award is won for an act that goes beyond
what a "normal" club member would do. The selection committee felt
that Paddy's actions on the first day of the Club's 2 day tour just outdid
several other mongrel acts committed that year. |
Paddy was contacted by phone
whilst still at the pub to remind him that the 2 day tour had started.
Paddy arrived and missed the first round being the 1 lap time trial but
entered the criterium. When it was over about 10am, Paddy flaked out
in the club couch and remained unconscious in the above position till we
woke him up about 5pm that afternoon. We had to go !! |

Here's the male members of the
Jenkin's family. The female members Maria and Zoe seem ok so luckily
it must be constrained to the male genes. Top left, Ritchard Jenkins
proudly displays the "Gregorys Award", complete with binoculars and compass.
Richard got lost on our annual Buxton R.A.C.E, not content in doing 64km,
Ritchie went to Picton and various other scenic towns to ensure that he did
not come home with less than 150km on the clock. By the way this was
not the only event he got lost on. Spongee proudly
displays the crash trophy. Anyone can have a crash but when you tell
someone to be very careful on a decent and they say, "No problems" you think
to yourself, No worries. I waited at the top of Dead Horse Gap because
I didn't want to have to climb out of what has been called the toughest
climb in Australia. So there I was enjoying some lovely fruit, the
scenery, the serenity. When all of a sudden the serenity is
interrupted by the howls of sirens. I thought to myself, where is that
Police car and ambulance going. Wasn't long before up they came with
Spongee in the back of the Ambulance. Spongee managed to ride off the
side of a cliff. Robbie Cater by the way was runner up for this award
as he followed Spongee off the same cliff. Guys those 15km signs on
the hairpin corners are "advisory speed signs". You don't multiply
them by three !! |

Now this huge
trophy which takes two men to lift was donated by the Newington Inn Hotel.
Amazingly, it is not the perpetual, it is the "take home - keeper" item.
Co-incidentally it was won by Chris White. It might be an appropriate
time to call for nominations for the 2003 "Mongrel Award" |
