Six Randwick Botany riders represented the club at the New South Wales Junior Road and Time Trial Championships at  Bowral on 8 September 2001.

REPORT

Luke Cridland was the 3rd NSW rider to finish the 10km U15 Men Time trial with a time of 16 minutes 38 seconds.  Other Randwick Botany junior riders who competed at Suttons Forest included Chris Jenkins, Robert Cater, Samantha Guille, Jonathon Cridland and Pita Vea.

Results for Time Trial:

Chris Jenkins 16th U17m time 20.17 for 12km

Samantha Guille 7th U15w time 19.32 for 10km

Jonathan Cridland 11th U13b time 13.06 for 6km

Pitta Vea 9th U13b time 13.01 for 6km

Luke Cridland 3rd U15m time16.38 for 10km

Riders backed up on the following day to compete in the Cycling NSW Junior State Road Championships at Glenquarry, NSW in fine but windy conditions.  Chris Jenkins was 6th in the U17 Men 50km race with Robert Cater finishing in the top 20 riders.  Samantha Guille finished 6th in the U15 Women 15km race.  Luke Cridland finished 5th in the U15 Men 25km race with Keegan Aitchison finishing in the top 20.  Jonathon Cridland was placed 11th in the U13 Men 11km event.  Pita Vea also competed in the U13 event.

In the Under 17 mens race, Chris Jenkins had a very hard ride and was in the main break of the day in the u17 with 10 riders Chris attacked the uphill sprint to the line and was able to increase his position by 2 places coming in 6th.  Rob Cater finished in the top twenty after a very difficult ride very gusty wind  only about 20 finished the U17 Men's race due to the conditions on the course.Excellent work both riders.

In the Under 15 Mens race, Luke Cridland finished 5th after having a break of nearly a minute with Tyler Mclaughlin and Chris Guillan. The bunch started to break up in the first 10 km.  After the first 1km Luke Tyler and Chris went to the front. Tyler got to the front and got away from the other 2  on the decent then luke chased.  Chris then attacked Luke on a slight incline and got away.  That left Luke in no mans land. The chasing bunch caught Luke about 1k from the bottom of the ''''hill'''''' which is about 3k long.  They rode to the line as a bunch of 5 but in the sprint to the line Luke had nothing left and finished 3rd in the bunch sprint.

In the Under 15 Women, Samantha Guille finished 6th in the Road race.  Samantha stayed with the field and  actually led the girls up the big hill and all the way back to the finish line.  When they made the turn she was in second spot and just and ran out of steam for the sprint to the finish, but again an outstanding effort for a girl who only started cycling in February and  7th in the Time Trial in a time of 19.32 for 10km.

Jonno Cridland finished 11th in the U13 Mens Road Race. Jonno was in the main break  untill the hill (from hell) just losing contact with the bunch about 200m from the top.  Once over the top there was only about 1km to the finish and Jonno was unable to get back on.  Top effort anyway Jonno.

Keegan Atchinson finished in the top 20 in the U15m the main split came early in the race he tried to bridge the gap across to luke to may be assist luke later in the race but the pace was realy on. He then settled down in the bunch and worked hard and also found the going hard on the ''''hill''''. Keegan was rapt that he finished with the main bunch in the state championships.

All riders had a difficult time due to the cold and windy conditions with extreme wind gusts of 60kph plus.
