REPORT
The Snowy Wilson Memorial
Criterium was held at Heffron Park, Maroubra, on Saturday 20 October 2001.
Over 100 senior men and women riders from all over NSW registered
to complete in six races around the tight 2km Heffron Park circuit.
Sydney Olympian and Australian MTB Champion, Paul Rowney blitzed
the field in the A Grade Men/Masters event.
Rowney won by 1.5km after completing 60 minutes plus 3 laps of the
Heffron Park 2km circuit. Locally,
Rowney rides for the Eastern Suburbs Club and is also a member of the
Colorado based Yeti Pearl Izumi MTB 4-person racing team. He spent 5 months of this year competing at races in the
United States. Robert Upton
from the Harlequin Wheelmen club won the bunch sprint for second place. Upton recently retuned from World Masters event in
Manchester, England where he won silver in the points and pursuit races.
Third place was claimed by Luis Trueba followed by Jeff Jones in
fourth place.
B Grade Men/Masters and U19 Men combined to compete for 45 minutes
plus 3 laps. Randwick Botany
rider Shaun Higgerson broke away early in the race and was later joined by
another Randwick Botany rider Patrick Jones.
 |
The two riders worked together to lap the field with Higgerson
crossing the line first just ahead of Jones.
Antonio Iannacito from the Harlequin club and Owen
MacPhillamy from the Central Coast filled the minor placings. |
