REPORT
A brief rain shower during the race did not slow the pace of the Randwick
Botany Cycling Club criterium race at Heffron Park on Saturday 10 march
2001. 'B' Grade started first and was chased by 'A' grade in a 36km
handicap race around the 2km road circuit. 'A' grade chased hard to
catch 'B' grade to claim the first 3 places. Stewart Campbell won
the sprint closely followed by Paul Rowney and Stuart Dangerfield.
The first B Grader home was Tony Ianacito.
'C' grade set a cracking pace from the first lap of their 15-lap race.
Half the field of 15 riders struggled to stay with the pacesetters with 5
riders being dropped after only 2 laps. Paul Kelly started the sprint to
the finish 1,000m from home and maintained a 20m breakaway from the C
Grade bunch to the line. Nick Cater claimed 2nd and Gary Allen 3rd.
D Grade completed 20kms at a steady pace. Paul Malzard finished
first, followed by Lindsay Monks and Ron Sproule.
Sarah Rockell won the 16km E Grade event, followed by Gai Cridland and
Richard Jenkins.
Eleven junior riders participated in short scratch races culminating in
the main event for the day - the 8km Handicap. First was Chris
Jenkins followed by Luke Cridland and Adriano Maradini.
The next club race will be conducted at Heffron Park on Saturday 17 March 2001. Juniors start at 1pm and Seniors 2.30pm sharp.
