August 2001 after a successful Junior Open Cycling Carnival last weekend.
After 18 laps of the 2km circuit, Anthony Spurgeon from
Team Caravello won the A Grade race in a time of 57 minutes 7 seconds.
Second was Phil Kelaher followed by Chris Rule.
A large field competed in the B Grade 32km event that saw a 200m,
4-rider breakaway, mid-way through the race.
Randwick Botany U17 rider Chris Jenkins and two others bridged the
gap to bring the group back together.
Mark Robertson made a solo breakaway with 6km to go but the B Grade
bunch worked together to catch Robertson for a group sprint to the line.
John Kenny crossed first in a time of 50 minutes 24 seconds.
Second place went to Garry Oliver with Jayson Brenton in third
place.
The C Grade race was conducted over 28km with a high average
speed of 37kmh. Frank
Conceicao crossed the line first in a time of 45 minutes flat.
Ross Mackay claimed second place with Nick Rule third.
