REPORT
Clear skies and a light breeze greeted the 67 riders who competed in the Randwick Botany Cycling Club race at Heffron Park, Maroubra, on Saturday 12 May 2001.

Tony Ianacito, Stan Genakis, Andrew Foggin and Chris White featured in the placing in the combined A/B Grade 32km event. The winning time was 49min 5sec with an average rider speed of 39.5 km/h.

Several breakaway attempts where made during the 28km C Grade race. But the 17-rider field was back together for the final lap lead by Maria Papopolous from Southern Off Road Cycling Club. Gary Allen crossed the line first in a time of 
46min 8sec with an average speed of 36.8km/h.   Second was Steven Bligh with David Jackson in third place.

Tanya Bosch from Sydney Cycling Club stormed home in the 10 lap, 20km D Grade event in a time of 36min 35sec. Second was Paul Baker ahead of Ron Sproule with an average speed of 33km/h.

Sarah Rockell again came first in the `E' Grade 16km race in a time of 29min 50sec followed by junior Jonathon Cridland and his mum Gai Cridland.

Fourteen junior riders competed in the 1 lap 2km Time Trial. Fastest time was Robert Cater, 3min 9sec, second was Liam Fletcher, 3min 10sec and third was Luke Cridland, 3min 17sec.

The junior A Grade 8km scratch race place getters where Robert Cater, Liam Fletcher and Luke Cridland. Keegan Aitchinson put in a strong performance to stay with the place getters for 3 out of the 4 laps.

Jonathon Cridland took out the junior B Grade 8km race, followed by Luke Davidson and Max Gueniev.

Luciana Smith rode away from the field for 2 of the 3 laps in the junior C Grade 6km race. The other riders caught Luciana in the final lap but she held her slender lead in an exciting sprint to finish first ahead of Adriano Maradini and Morgan Stokes.

In other Randwick Botany Cycling Club junior news, Chris Jenkins (U17), Luke Cridland (U15) and Jonathon Cridland (U13) represented the club at the Wagga Wagga Cycling Club, Fearnes Coaches Junior 2 Day Tour on 5/6 May 2001. Jenkins was placed 9th in the U17 A Grade road race and 15th overall, in his first major open event against state and national riders. NSW State Team member Luke Cridland finished 6th in his U15 race and his brother Jonathon finished 10th in the U13 event.

The next Randwick Botany Cycling Club race will be conducted at Heffron Park on Saturday 19 May 2001. Juniors start at 1pm and Seniors 2.30pm.
