REPORT

For the second week running Anthony Spurgeon from Team Caravello took out the 36km A Grade cycle race at Heffron Park on Saturday 2 June 2001. Randwick Botany Cycling Club rider Andrew Foggin came in second with Chris Rule from Eastern Suburbs Club, third.

Stan Genakis lead out several times in the 30km B Grade race, but Jayson Brenton took first place honours followed by John Kenny from Eastern Suburbs Club. Third place was claimed by Dean Preddy from Randwick Botany. Sam Reuben returned to cycle racing at Heffron Park after a 2-year break. Sam was happy to 
finish with the bunch at the end of the race.

Peter Wilson from Eastern Suburbs Club made a strong solo breakaway at the 20km mark in the 30km C Grade event. Wilson maintained the break and finished 400m ahead of the main pack. Andrew Goff from Parramatta won the C Grade bunch sprint to claim second place followed by Warwick Goldsmith, in third place. John Droz and Chris Weldon crashed with 8km to go and suffered minor abrasions. Both riders where attended to by St. John Ambulance officer - Roy Magill, who attends all Randwick Botany Cycling Club races.

Peter Craig won the 18km D Grade race. Second was Neil Morris and Paul Baker third. Richard Jenkins won the 18km E Grade event for the second week running. Jonathon Cridland (U13) was second and Julia Guinan third.

Thirteen Junior riders competed in a Time Trail and Scatch race event. The 2km Time Trial was won by Robert Cater (U17) in a time of 3min 11sec. Second was Chris Jenkins (U17), 3min 12sec and third was Liam Fletcher (U17) in a time of 3min 15sec.

The Junior A grade, 14km Scratch Race was won by Chris Jenkins followed by Robert Cater and Luke Cridland. The B Grade 10km race was taken out by Jonathon Cridland with Thom Richards in second place and Thomas Murdoch, third. The C Grade race over 6km was won by Adriano Maradini followed by Antoine Rosse, second and Morgan Stokes third.

The next Randwick Botany Cycling Club race will be conducted at Heffron Park on Saturday 9 June 2001. Juniors start at 1pm and Seniors 2.30pm.
