REPORT
The Randwick Botany Cycling Club held its first club time
trial for 2001, at
Heffron Park, Maroubra on Sunday 29 April 2001. Some 36 junior and
senior club
riders competed in some exciting racing against-the-clock. Handicap
and
Scratch races where also conducted. The event was followed by a BBQ
for
riders, officials and spectators.
Many of the riders were
completely exhausted afterwards having done a 90km training ride then
returning to the club from the ride and straight into the races. It
was a fantastic day which culminated in a well earned rest by the riders
as they kicked up their heels and enjoyed a beautiful BBQ lunch complete
with magnificent pasta dishes, salad, boiled potatoes, fresh buttered
breadstick and a magnificent fruit salad.
Everyone then sat about and
had a magnificent afternoon in the sunshine, told stories (mainly cycling
of course) and enjoyed each others company. It was fantastic to see
the members enjoying what is one of the great strengths of our club, the
comradery and strong social theme.
My thanks to the Organisers,
Helen and Fred Vella and helpers Joanne Buckton, Dale Rockell and Paul
Baker. (Dale and Paul on BBQ duties) Many thanks also to our Club
Handicapper and Junior Development Officer, Jason Webb who put aside
personal suffering and recovery time after his race to work out all the
Junior and Senior handicaps.
The next Randwick Botany Cycling Club Time Trial Picnic Day will be
conducted at Heffron Park on Sunday 29 July 2001. Seniors and
U/17 Juniors meet no later than 6.30am in the carpark for a leisurely
training ride and warm up to Waterfall and back. Racing for both
Juniors and Seniors will commence at 10am. Anyone who does not do
the warm up ride will be taken into account by the handicapper.
