REPORT
Team
Caravello rider Anthony Spurgeon again dominated at the weekly Randwick
Botany Cycling Club A Grade 36km criterium race at Heffron Park, Maroubra
on Saturday 7 July 2001. Spurgeon
crossed the line first in a time of 55 minutes 12 seconds.
Second was Nicholas Wood followed by Stewart Campbell.
A Grade average speed was 39kmh.
Two
interstate riders participated in the A Grade event - Dominic Briscomb
from the Italo Cycling Club in Melbourne and Shane Mackey from Perth.
Mackey used the Heffron Park race as a buildup race to the Tour de
China starting on 26 July and finishing in Beijing on 29 July 2001 and covering over
600km. Mackey will be apart
of the 6-rider City of Perth team.
Steve
Hogg and Paul Kelly lead out early in the B Grade 32km event but were
chased down by the other sixteen B Graders after 6km.
Kirk Purchase made a strong breakaway late in the race, however the
bunch reformed for an exciting sprint to the line. First was Ken Johnston in a time of 50 minutes 38 seconds
followed by Warrick Goldsmith and Dean Preddy.
Herve
Boutin was promoted from D Grade to C Grade and rode strongly over the
28km. First place went to
Jeremy O'Brien in a time of 48 minutes 15 seconds.
Second was Brad Lane and Stephen Bligh third. Frank Conceicao finished just out of the placings, having
stepped off a flight from Europe earlier in the day.
Bankstown
Sports Club rider Paul Dimitriou again set the pace in the D Grade 20km
event. Randwick Botany Junior
Keegan Aitchinson, made some strong breakaways during the race and
finished third, behind Paul Baker and Kane Baker.
The winning time was 36 minutes.
Peter Davison won the E Grade, 14km race in a time of 31 minutes 16
seconds followed by Norman Jew and Gai Cridland.
Two
juniors events where conducted starting with the Junior 2km Time Trial
which was won by Robert Cater, 3 minutes 2 seconds.
Second place went to Liam Fletcher, 3 minutes 7 seconds.
Third was Luke Cridland, 3 minutes 10 seconds.
The Junior 14km Handicap was taken out by Keegan Aitchinson
followed by Jonathon Cridland and Thom Richards.
The fastest rider was Chris Jenkins.
The
next Randwick Botany Cycling Club race will be conducted at Heffron Park
on Saturday 14 July 2001. Juniors
start at 1.30pm and Seniors 2.30pm. For more information about the club, please contact the club

report: There were no primes conducted this week. Maybe
next week. However just to make you happy I got around and took a
few snaps of the action. (Yes that was me sitting in my trusty chair
