An all-in 30km
handicap race was conducted for thirty A, B, C and D grade
riders. The seven A-Grade riders worked together to chase
down the other grades who received a substantial head
start. |
George Pappas from the
Dulwich Hill club rode well but Liam Kelly from the Eastern
Suburbs club was the strongest. Kelly won the event and also
recording the fastest time of 46min 3sec and an average speed
of just under 40kph in blustery conditions. Second place went
to Ian Gardener (Eastern Suburbs) and Pappas third. The first
B-Grade rider to finish was Andrew Kilday (St George). The
first C-Grade rider was Randwick Botany’s Simon Gallagher and
the first D-Grader was Alan Sumner from the Dulwich Hill club.
The handicap event
was something different to the normal Saturday's racing but it
was clear that many of the riders enjoyed it from the big
smiles on their faces.
