THANK YOU:

The Snowy Wilson Memorial Open was a fantastic event and, by all accounts, enjoyed  by all who attended.  The day would not have been so successful nor even possible had it not been for the 40 plus people who gave selflessly of their time and worked to make the event such a huge success.  The following is by no means an exhaustive list and is merely those workers who come to memory.  I'm sure there were others and I hope you will forgive me if I have forgotten you.  On behalf of the Randwick Botany Cycling Club I would like to thank all of you.

REPORT

Over 150 riders registered for the Snowy Wilson Memorial Criterium cycling event at Heffron Park, Maroubra on Monday 9 June 2003.  The 7-race program was conducted on the tight 2km closed road circuit in excellent weather conditions.

The race is dedicated to the memory of Alfred C "Snowy" Wilson who joined the Randwick Botany Cycling Club in 1917.  Snowy was a member of the club for over 30 years and served as Club Secretary for 26 years.  Snowy's daughter Phyllis Gilbert lives in Sydney and is very proud to see her father remembered this way each year.

A Grade on the line awaiting start

Troy Glennan drives the 4 man A grade break away

The Chasing A grade peleton.

Randwick Botany had their hopes in newly crowned Sydney Road Champion, Liam Kelly.

Peter Hatton wins the A Grade sprint.  Simon Price had a great race to place 2nd.  Bit of action when pulled his foot but was able to still hang on for third.

Liam had a great race but the strain of the huge ride and subsequent victory on Saturday, together with another hard race at the Sutherland open on Sunday and it was no wonder that he was a little flat on Monday.

The winners of the A grade race proudly wear their hats supplied by race sponsor, PowerBar.

Matty Lucas in action in the C grade event.  Will Gray had a fantastic ride in C grade and can be seen just to the right of Matt.

The Clarence street team looked pretty impressive.  They worked well together during the race

They even worked well together before the race. Now that's teamwork !

RBCC's current AWD Tandem National Champion, Janelle Lindsay showed us that a velodrome is not the only track she can go fast around.  Janelle spent much of the race riding herself and holding off the charging scratchies, Kate Nicholls and Zoe Southwell.

You've all seen the Men in Black.  Well here's RBCC's Women in Black.  National and Oceania U17 Womens champion Brittany Orr.  National AWD Tandem track champion, Janelle Lindsay and anchorwoman of our Women's team time trial team, Melanie Rassam.

Here's C Grade winner Matt Lucas.  Women's winner, Janelle Lindsay and 3rd place getter in the B grade event, Under 19 RBCC Junior rider Rob Cater all proudly wearing sponsor PowerBar hats.

Pictured left is Ritchie Jenkins.  What can you say about Ritchie.  Not only is Ritchie a Cycling NSW Commissaire and assisted in that regard.  Not only did he man the video camera to determine any close finishes.  Not only did he set up all the PA equipement, but in between races he entertained the crowd by belting out Italian arias.  Here he is performing Nessun Dorma from Puccini's Turandot.

Here's a group of RBCC "Wannerbees".  They didn't win anything but they had a great time and they are great members of the club so we took their photo anyway.
