Matt and Leah pictured above with proud mum. It was a pleasure to
have our visitors from Southern Cross club on the day. I actually
had to almost twist Matt's arm to get him to ride Seniors and then he went
and won D grade. Good work Matt.

REPORT
|
.jpg) |
October is the month when we should be packing
away our arm & leg warmers. It was not the case today
however. Riders were greeted with chilly, windy conditions.
In fact the wind has been so strong lately that we have had to
cancel two races because of it. The danger is the severe
gusting which can straighten riders up after they have committed
their line into a corner (just ask Aaron Castles about this
point). Similarly such gusts can move riders suddenly across
into other riders. |
|
We were really fortunate however to
have our resident wind expert, Dale Rockel, on hand. Dale
assured us that it whilst the wind strength was quite strong, it
was not gusting and was in fact constant. Thanks for that Dale and
by the way can you tell us what laundry powder Cathy uses. |
The strong, non gusting wind however apparently put many riders off as
there was a very reduced field of starters. Some of our resident
stalwarts were there however. Cyclones and hurricanes are not
going to stop these intrepid riders from missing out on their weekly
race. Not like one "very soft" rider who shall remain nameless
but who informed me he couldn't ride because he had a nasty cold sore.

In the foreground, Carlo Ghisolfi who represented Italy in the
1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne. Behind him is 71 year old
Ron Sproule, long time member of RBCC and Ex professional rider.
Neither hurricane or cold sore was going to put these guys off
their race. |
| |
|
C Grade was where
the action was this week however with eventual 5th place getter, Rocky
Fortuna, reveling in the windy conditions. Rocky just loves to
drive into a howling gale and the conditions just suited him
perfectly.
|
.jpg) |
Here's Rocky on the front on lap one. There's resident wind
expert, Dale tucked in out of it directly behind Rocky.
Eventual winner Andy Matthew can be seen third wheel and just
couldn't stop smiling. |
| |
|
|

Here's Rocky again driving into the Southerly. Andy is
just sitting on and couldn't stop smiling. Andy told me that
he tried to do a turn on several occasions only to have Rocky
speed up and prevent him from doing it. So Andy just sat on
and smiled. |
| |
|
|
.jpg) |
Here we are about 75% distance and Rocky is still driving,
Andy is still smiling and another resident "experienced drafter",
Tony Caruana has taken up third wheel. Congratulations to Tony who
managed to get 2nd place. |
| |
|
|

Tony Horneman must have got so sick of taking Rocky first,
that he cropped him out of this shot. Believe me however the
reason Andy is smiling is because Rocky is still dragging him
along on the bell lap. |

At the finish however, it was Andy across the line first, with
Tony Caruana second and Brad Lane storming home for third place. |

Clive Hammerson was first accross the finish line in the
combined A/B grade race. |

Regular Dulwich Hill rider George Pappas came across the line
in second place in the A/B combined race. |
