REPORT

Saturday racing recommenced this week after a one week break whilst we conducted the Snowy Wilson Memorial last weekend.  Well this week the wind was back and it was cold.  Other than being a little on the chilly side the day's racing was conducted under beautiful blue skies.  A big field of A graders (seen left), gathered on the starting line just prior to blasting off for the 36 kilometre criterium.  Aaron Castles rode a particularly strong race to get away with Simon Price.  Our resident sprinting (and now radio- see "Radio Coverage") star made short work of the remaining peleton to take third place.

Our mates from Sydney Club, (pictured right), are always great supporters of the racing at Heffron Park.  Several were quite successful against the Randwick Botany riders with Paul Kelly getting a ride away win in B grade and Kevin Black and John Revesz getting the minor placings in the C grade field.  Congratulations to Steve Hogg who had a run with the big boys in A grade.

Good to see RBCC riders improving and electing to ride up a grade.  No, I didn't have to put the hard word on them, they all elected to go go themselves.  From Left Michael "Big bird" Murdock has moved up to A grade, Greg Smart has moved up to C grade.  Resident track star, Janelle Lindsay has moved up to B grade and Will Gray has moved up to A grade.  Congratulations guys and gal.

Good to see our mate, big Roger Crawford back after a spell.  Roger firstly did his back in then followed that up with some viral infection which has seen him off the bike for about 3 weeks.  Even with three weeks off he still had plenty to stay with the B grade bunch yet it was obvious that his fitness was a little off.  I noticed those huge leg ripping turns that he pulls at the front were a little softer than usual and his huge sprint at the end likewise was lacking a little.  Very rare that big Roger is out of the placings.  Knowing Roger though, I'm sure he will be ripping our legs off in a week or two.

I'm sure that the cold must affect the lower grades more.  If you have a look at the photo of our E grade bunch, they came to the podium wearing jumpers and sloppy joes etc. D Grade didn't even make it to the podium.  They all just took off, Ronny Sproule quick to fire up the climate control in the Jaguar.  Then we look at C grade.  Mark Taylor looks like he's standing on a tropical island.  Anyway hopefully if it's a little warmer next week so that we might be able to bring you a picture of the delicate D graders.

Here's some of our brave E graders all smiles before the start.  Different story though after the Commissaire says "go".  The smiles are replaced by grimaces of determination.  (Well it looks like determination - then again it could be pain).  Pictured right to left are:  Ross Fullerton, Kevin Blanchfield, Julia Guinan and looking on is Roy O'Toole.

RADIO COVERAGE

Coverage of local cycling results can be heard on Sydney’s Eastside Radio 89.7FM “GAME ON” program, hosted by Brad Cooke, each Saturday morning from 10am to 12pm.  This Saturday Brad interviewed our resident sprinting star, Matt Lucas.  It was quite an entertaining interview and congratulations Matthew on your debut radio performance.
