Finally summer showed up at Heffron and the wind
was down to a mere gale. Some 70 plus riders including a 16
strong A grade, lined up behind the start line. A huge
spectator gallery formed to cheer the riders on. Spectators
seemed to be enjoying the events enormously (Click on
thumbnails for larger view) |

In A Grade, Paul Rowney went out of the blocks and
the peleton had to try to go with him. Alas, only a few were
able to hang on including the Prince of Heffron, Robbie Cater.
Robbie then attacked Paul. |

The chasing peleton flashes past like a blur in
pursuit of the three away. Matt Lucas drives them along |

Mick Cohen (furthest left) rode extremely well
eventually procuring 4th place. |

Eventual winner, Perren Delacour was able to come
across the break and these three held off the chasing peleton to
claim the first 3 places. |
Big Roger Crawford stole the show in the
B Grade race. Roger got off the front and seemed to be suffering
out there for some three laps by himself. The peleton reeled him
in and no sooner as we had, he was off again never to be seen again.
A fabulous gutsy ride in the windy conditions. Congratulations
Roger. Back in the peleton however there were more sinister
goings ons. In actual fact it started almost an entire week
before the race as I suffered constant emails from a certain person
advising me of how he was going to "kick my A..." Then I had to
endure sabotage as I found both my tyres deflated just before race
start time. I can't prove it but I have a fair idea of who did
it. You might recall last week's story and the 4 or so photos of
Rocky Fortuna driving C grade along in the windy conditions.
Well Rocky, armed with his previous weeks exploits, and the hundreds
of kilometres training that he was not shy in bragging about, came up
to B Grade to play. Where was he this week you might ask?
|

There he is in the red jersey, third wheel. I can be
seen far left in Randwick Botany colours just leaving the frame.
That's where Rocky sat most of the race. Sucking my wheel ! |
Well Rocky, you are playing with the big boys now. I think
you better do a few more thousand kilometres before you start throwing
the gauntlet down again. Under 17 rider, Chris Guillan had a great
race coming in third with a fantastic sprint in his Under 17
restricted gears.

"Sneaky Pete" Lynch sticks his head up for Tony the camerman.
He was really proud of his new glasses and never missed an
opportunity to show them off |

Will Elrick gave the "two leggers" a run for their money in
the C Grade event. Here he is pictured behind Tyron
Bicknell. Will is training hard in his efforts to qualify
for Athens in the Kilo event. |

Some of the juniors raced Seniors for the first time and put
in a good showing. Here, Tom Patton can be seen 3rd wheel
behind Herve Boutin and Alan Sumner in the D Grade race |
In other news, many of you would know that I am on a diet. Well
evidence of that was captured by cameraman, Tony Horneman. Tony
captured two photos of me in exactly the same place but some six weeks
apart and the results are obvious.

web site in the near future. Ernie took some excellent action
shots at Heffron. Without further ado, here they are:
