REPORT

Santa turned up just after the Junior races to the delight of the young racers and guests.

Santa gave out gifts to all the little Juniors who announced that they had been good.

Left -Santa gives young Sam Buckland his christmas stocking.

Left Adriano Maradini who recently won 2 Silver medals in the Metro Junior Track Championships gets a gift from Santa.

Tom Patton receives his gift whilst club Junior Captain, Michael Murdoch looks on.

Thanks Santa.

Here I am having received a gift from Santa on behalf of the Juniors.  What a fantastic gift.  Santa knew exactly what would put a smile on my face.  A six pack of Crownies !!

Was it my imagination but Santa seemed to get slimmer and younger around race time and eventually was on the starting line with the rest of the riders.  Before he did however he continued to give out presents to the young ones.

Left Santa gives gifts to the little ones including riders Leah and Joshua from Southern Cross club. There was plenty of seating on Santa's sleigh (bike ???)

Here's more of the kid's with Santa.

A slimmed-down Santa Claus (with a close resemblance to Randwick Botany Cycling club member Dunstan Bertshinger) registered to race in C-Grade at the Annual Christmas Pudding Races at Heffron Park on Saturday 20 December 2003. Above Santa was the picture of pure concentration on the start line.  Not even one of Tanya Bosche's funnies could effect the stony glare of determination.

Santa attached his race number to the back of big red coat, firmly attached his red cap to his race helmet, tied back his long white beard and was off with 20 other C-Graders for a 28km race.

Staying at the back of  the bunch for the first few laps, spectators and children cheered Santa each time he rode by, but he appeared to be sweating more than the other riders, probably due to wearing clothing more suited to The North Pole. Above, eventual winner Shaun Ballesty looks surprised to see someone actually riding behind him.

It wan't long before Santa threw his bike/sleigh mobile into top gear and broke away from the peleton.

Big "Ginge" Baker could hardly believe it as Santa flashed by tucked down low on the Santa mobile, his beard pressed back hard by the wind.

Then Santa was away.  Unfortunately Santa started going so fast that witnesses say he blasted off around the back of the circuit, up into the clouds and with a final "Ho Ho HO", was gone.

With Santa out of the way, it was an easy victory for Shaun Ballesty (the fox) from Randwick Botany CC, in a time of 43min 40sec.  Second was Jim Eades (Southern Cross) with Arthur Driver (Penrith Panthers) third.

It was an all-Randwick Botany affair in the premier 36km A-Grade race with Patrick Jones winning in a time of 54min 52sec, followed by new member Jerzy Sowa, Peter McDonald and cyclingnews.com editor Jeff Jones.

B-Grade placegetters were Andy Matthews (Randwick Botany), Matthias Schnapka (Germany) and Crispin Arnell (Randwick Botany).  D-Grade was won by Matt Fawl (Randwick Botany), Murray Booth (Randwick Botany) and new member Alexandra Templeton.

All placegetters received Christmas Puddings as prizes.

After racing riders and guests tucked into a magnificent Christmas afternoon tea feast.  Special thanks to Helen Vella for setting this all up.  Below, the girls looked pretty happy.
