REPORT
Local Identity "Bambino" Aitchison showed
up to watcha his papa, Antonio Aitchison winna the D grade race.
Bambino lookeda very nicea and tooka Liam Kelly's place in the A
Grade photo.
For soma reason, Liam Kelly didn't a sticka rounda
too long.
Bit of changing within the grades this week saw some riders electing
to ride up a grade (others had to be forced up kicking and screaming
but I won't mention names). Big Roger Crawford joined other
recent A grade promotees, Kevin Black and Karl Bellamy and
experienced first hand the pain in trying to stay with Liam Kelly,
Paul Rowney and Robbie Cater.
In B Grade, Chris Guillan once again gave us a lesson on his
restricted gears in a fantastic sprint. Andy Matthews had a
fantastic first B grade ride with a second place. There were a
few of us in good position approaching the finish straight when Sneaky
Pete Lynch did his amazing sidewise pedal clipping saddle breaking
trick. A really impressive trick and given I was right on his
wheel, it allowed me to appreciate it all the more. I put out of my
mind the last time I tumbled over Pete who hit the ground in front of
me and did not let it scare the hell out of me. By the time we
collected ourselves back on path however, the first 5 riders got about
a 30 metre break coming into the finish straight. It went
something like this. Peter getting rather frustrated at a couple
of the sprinters not going fast enough on the bell lap, pedaled
exceptionally hard through the 180 degree corner exiting the netball
courts. He pedaled right through the corner at an unbelievable
angle, when all of a sudden I heard the momentary clip of a pedal
after which Pete's bike stepped out violently sideways in front of me.
The sudden violent movement coupled with big Pete trying to control
her, saw him snap his carbon seat post off. I have to tell you
that I am a great fan of those carbon seat posts, having now seen
several of them go. Yep they are lighter and they make you go so
much faster to be worth the exorbitant cost and when they do suddenly
go there's (hopefully ) nothing a little anal or genital surgery can't
fix !!
I will stay with my alloy one thank you very much.
Well sorry there's no pictures of the C graders. They all shot
through scared of a little Cumulus nimbus (ominous rain clouds).
Well I think that was the case, could have been Don Antonio and
Bambino. Don Antonio, "the Exterminator" has been promoted to C
grade starting next week.
Well D Grade was a bit of a procession and in the end it was Don
Antonio first with new members Lucas Fox and Andrew Hall apparently a
little concerned about passing the Don.
We would like to thank Ron Bonham who
came along and used the amazingly technology of the Aust
Cycling Federation to check and adjust the riding position
of some of our juniors. It was amazing to see how
far out their cleat positions on their shoes were.
