THANK YOU:

Thanks to John Buckton our Chief Commissaire on the day,  and assistant Mark Robertson.  Thanks to our safety marshals, Dave Jefferson and Richard Jenkins.  Thanks to Mark Robertson & Richard Jenkins who manned the registration desk in the absence of Helen, Joanne and Jenny who were away on club business (enjoying themselves).  Thanks to Richard who also deployed and retrieved all the safety equipment. Thanks to Dale Rockel who blew all the glass, debris off the track. Thanks to Roy, RJ and trainee of the St John Ambulance.   Thanks to Maria Jenkins who manned the canteen. Thanks (I think) to trainee photographer Thomas Murdoch who manned the club camera in the absence of Tony Horneman who had a day off due to minor illness.

REPORT

Simon Price had a fantastic ride spending nearly half the A grade race out the front in a breakaway.  At one stage Randwick Botany's Matthew Lucas who also had a fantastic ride, bridged the gap and worked with Simon for a couple of laps before Matthew made the decision to rejoin the peleton.  Amazingly, Simon was able to maintain the gap on the peleton for the last 7 laps and held on to take first place.  Simon may well have been helped a little by myself as Commissaire when I decided to bell A Grade 1 lap early so that A & B were not sprinting on the same lap.  Matthew Lucas took the "King" on in the sprint and only narrowly missed out with Anthony Spurgeon coming second and winning the the bunch sprint and Matthew placing third.

Early action in the B Grade race with Neil Morris pictured up front doing it pretty easily.  Apprentice RBCC photographer Tom Murdoch can be seen tucked in at the back of the bunch.  He really enjoyed the transition from triathlon. He thought it was fantastic when we showed him how to "suck a wheel", now we can't get him to experience the wind on his chest. This photo was actually taken by Scotty Callum.

In B Grade it was a Randwick Botany Trifecta with a fantastic sprint between Dave Macpherson, Brendan Ingram and Roger Crawford.  Very close but they finished in that order.  Dave rode a fantastic race to hold off Brendan and big Roger who was coming home like a locomotive.

C Grade saw Hugh Gray doing a bit of reconnaissance for the scheduled Waratah Vets criterium the following day, Sunday 4 May. Hugh managed to give our RBCC C graders a bit of a sprinting lesson winning out over Tony Caruana and Shaun Ballesty.  It was Hugh's first ride at circuit and he told me that he enjoyed it.  It was a surprise on sunday when he failed to show at the Vet's race.  Perhaps he was resting on his laurels.

Like C grade, Felix Tucci, showed Randwick Botany boys, Paul Baker and Ron Sproule how to sprint.  Felix, unlike Hugh however, is a regular to Heffron and knows his way round the circuit.  I have to apologise to Ron.  My trainee photographer left a little to be desired in terms of photography.  Well at least he got half your head in the shot.  It looks like Thomas waited for everyone to look the other way before taking the podium shots.  Oh well I guess he tried to catch the more casual image not so staged as Tony's ones.  At the bottom of this report I have included some of Thomas Murdoch's other masterpieces.

In E grade we only managed to get a shot of Julia as the winner as Kev Blanchfield shoots off after the races pretty smartly apparently to do about 10 kilometres in the pool.  Kev loves a good swim after a big hit out on the track.

Let's see Ernie Smith take one of these!! Thomas has left us guessing as to which of the 81 rider's back wheels this is.

Well I am not even going to risk making a comment about this one other to say, yes it is my hand.

Ok, Tom, Spongee is enjoying a Gatorade.  I don't get it.  What are you saying here?
