REPORT

Close
finishes in all grades was the feature of criterium racing
at Heffron Park on Saturday 8 November 2003. |
|
Luis Trueba (Auburn Lidcombe)
won the 36km A-Grade event followed closely by Matthew
Lucas (Randwick Botany). |

Good to see Chris "Spongee" Jenkins
back on the bike and racing. Spongee has been very
busy with his head down for the Higher School Certificate.
The HSC now over, Spongee is back racing and trying to
regain his previous form. |
|
Left, Spongee
sits in behind ex RBCC rider Chris Young who was seduced
to the Darkside by Frank "Darth Vader" Conceicao.
Pete McDonald and Sneaky Pete Lynch can be seen tucked in
behind Spongee. |

Here Jeff " The Doc" Jones gets em
gasping. Jeff went to the front and eventual winner
Luis Trueba can be seen trying to suck in the big ones.
|
|
Also gasping
is Robbie "The Prince" Cater whilst Mick Cohen tries to
quench his insatiable thirst. All this attributable
to taking The Doc out on his first Thursday training ride
a couple of mornings prior to this race. |

Robbie Cater drives A grade up the
dreaded Heffron pimple. Many of them are out of the
saddle to master this savage ascent. |

I was very distressed this
week being knocked out of my usual 4th place down to
fifth. Tony was determined to get my picture on the
web however so he started shooting me presenting prizes to
the placegetters in A grade |
|
(No I'm not holding it in -
that's natural, I don't care what you think). Here I
congratulate Luis Truebar |
|
.jpg) |
Here I congratulate Matt Lucas
for a fine 2nd place (by a whisker) in A grade.
Matty had a fabulous race also the following day at the
Lidcome Criterium Open with a great 2nd place (again by a
whisker) to Laurant Vignes. |

B Grade action as I turn
up the wick. Lately I feel as though I have become
Andy Matthew's domestique. Every time I look around,
there he is. |
|
Then again they do tell me
that being behind me is like being drafted behind a truck.
Rocky Fortuna told me he did B grade comfortably this
week. |
|
Click on photo above for a
larger view to see the comfortable expression on Rocky's
face and the way he delicately grasps the handlebars.
Yeah sure, Rocky. You did it real easy !! |
|

Alan Cohen
(Randwick Botany) stole the show in C-Grade, after hiding
at the back of the bunch for most of the race- (This
comment courtesy of Tony Horneman). David South (Waratah
Veterans) was second and Neil Richards (Randwick Botany)
third. Left, FRF team boss Frank Fortuna
congratulates his pupil. I think my expression says
it all. |
|
 |
|
We asked Alan Cohen whether
he thought he was ready to ride B Grade again even if it
was contrary to team orders. |
|

All the sprints were close. The
D grade sprint saw Gus Silva just edge out Randwick
Botany's Andrew Hall. |
| |
|
|

Left the D grade bunch with 13 year
old Tom Patton, 3rd wheel, dwarfed by the senior riders.
Tom took it easy on them this week saving himself for the
Lidcome criterium open the following day. |
