I guess the stand out rider of the
day had to be Peter McDonald. Peter has been a member for
less than 6 months and new to cycle racing. When he first
came down to Heffron we gave him a run in D grade and he rode away
from them. Then we put him in C Grade and he rode away from
them. Then he had a run with B grade and I thought that our
handicappers had finally found his home but another couple of
weeks and Peter put about half a lap into B grade. Ok A
grade will sort him out! Peter had his first ride in A grade
this week and what did he do? He attacked them and went off
the front. |

Matt Lucas was able to stay with Peter and
the two RBCC riders worked together and looked as if they
might stay away. That was until Simon Price put his huge
engine into top gear and blasted off the front of the peleton
and got across to the RBCC break in a fantastic show of
strength and endurance. The three riders stayed away
then from the chasing peleton. In the end it was Matt
Lucas who threw everything at Simon in the sprint but Pricey
was just too strong and took the glory |
Next lesson that we are going to
teach Peter is "Leading out your club mate" which could put upset
to Pricey's future victories. Then again Pricey if you come
aboard the good ship RBCC, we can organise leading you out. |
Good to see John McKenzie getting
up in B Grade even though he is from the "Darkside". Now I
should tell you John and Graeme from Dubbo, Tony gives you about 1
second to smile, open your eyes or whatever and then he clicks off the
photo ready or not.
Matt Tabone wore his polka dot jersey looking for some hills
at Heffron. You ought to know Matt that we don't have
hills but we can usually accommodate those looking for a bit
tougher ride with a force 10 gale.
Well without Mark Stevens from the Sydney club, D Grade podium
would have been very much a Waratah affair.
The Stormin Normans came home one, two again in E Grade.
Unfortunately big Kev Blanchfieild came in third but couldn't
stick around for the photo. Kev usually races down to
Clovelly for a couple of snappy kilometres in the water after
a bike race. E Grade is still waiting for Julia Guinan.
Come back Julia the guys reckon that they are now ready for
you.
We had a couple of exciting junior events. Results are
in the column bottom left.
