RBCC RIDERS CLEAN UP AT GUNNEDAH

It was a great day for both Randwick Botany Cycling Club and FRF Couriers when Chris "Spongee" Jenkins of the Randwick Botany cycling club, and a member of the FRF Couriers team, took out the Keegan Downes 105km Handicap Race Coonabarabran to Gunnedah on Saturday 10 July.  Working with Matt Lucas who was also in the 7 minute bunch, the pair systematically caught all the bunches off before them and actually put time into bunches chasing them.  It was a fabulous ride. Congratulations also to Matt Lucas (pictured below third from left) who finished second to Spongee giving Randwick Botany one, two in the event.  RBCC also had a spectacular day 2 with Patrick Naughton (pictured bottom right) taking out Division 3 and Chris Reynolds (seated next to Pat), taking out Division 4.   Josh Maren (second from right) and Pete Macdonald (far right) also had fantastic rides and would most likely have won also if it were not for a little bad luck.  The story from Pat Naughton below:

Bucko,
Big weekend for RBCC...Saturday Spongee and Matt go 1-2 to win the103km Connabarabran to Gunnedah. They started off 7 mins and never got caught by the guys behind. They were both driving it and riding very strongly and went 1-2 in a bunch of about 20 riders.  Chris Reynolds and I got shelled in the last 20 kms and we finished in the next groups.

Sunday. ...A bit of an epic day as it pissed down the whole way.
Div 2. Bit of drama for Pete the Machine and Josh. They were 3 mins up the road and almost catching A grade when they got stuck behind a bus and a commissaire DQ'ed them for drafting!!! He later told them
that he made a mistake...Anyway they dropped back to the bunch and finished with them. A small group escaped at the end and Matt scored a 3rd place. Spongee punctured unfortunately.
Div 3. I got into a group of 4 breakaway after 30kms.. We kept driving it and got a 2 min gap. Soon after one guy got a flat and the young guy with us ran out of steam. So in the end me and a Tamworth guy finished
together for equal first place. The bunch finished 1minute down.
Div 5. Big Chris Reynolds won the bunch kick for first easily. Chris told me he stayed in the first 10 all day and swapped off turns. In the last 5 km all these guys kept attacking him and he just chased them all
down to keep it together. He said he was ready for the sprint but didn't have to as no-one had the legs to challenge him...

      So basically RBCC cleaned up!!!

Cheers Patrick
