CONGRATULATIONS TO CHRIS "SPONGIE" JENKINS & ROBBIE CATER, OUR NEW STATE CRITERIUM MEDALISTS.

Robbie and Chris both won bronze State medals at the NSW Criterium championships condicted at Dunc Gray Criterium circuit on Saturday 22 May 2004.  Robbie placed third in the U19 Men's division and Spongie placed third in the U23 Men's division.  Robbie and Spongie both using Velomax wheels, attribute much of their success to RBCC Club sponsor, Velomax Wheel Systems.

It was a great day for the FRF team with Jose Rodriquez winning the Gold medal in the Elite Men's division.  Congratulations Jose.  Congratulations also to Christine Riakos and Natasha Harrigan who placed 3rd & 4th in the Women's race.

This report from Club Captain Matt Lucas:

35 riders lined up for the NSW Elite Men Criterium Champs at the fast and technical Dunc Gray Criterium Circuit. As usual Clarence Street, FRF Couriers and Marconi had strong contingents and from the outset were
attempting to get a break up the road by attacking and blocking. RBCC riders included Chris Jenkins (FRF/RBCC), Peter McDonald, Josh Marden & myself

Whilst many breaks looked dangerous none were able to stay away and the bunch was together for the prime at 25 minutes to go. The major teams consistently kept attacking, but our RBCC riders were consistently going
with breaks or involved with chasing. Peter was unlucky a few times not to go away but riders were too keen on chasing everything that was going off the front. A spectacular fall mid race saw many top riders given a
lap out (why?).

With three laps to go Clarence street and FRF had riders on the front driving hard which made it very difficult to move up to follow the top sprinters wheels. In the end  Spongee finished 10th overall, Josh 11th, Matt 13th and Pete sat up on the last lap when it was evident he wasn't going to win the sprint from last in the bunch! Spongee's placing also gave him Bronze in the U/23 division - Congratulations to Chris on winning another State medal.
