Our team, the "All Show with No Go" team rode down to the start
with very little time before the start. Even though there were only
minutes till the start, nothing was going to stop my team mate, Alan Cohen,
from having his morning brew and carbo loading with a Mars bar. Pretty
soon though he had finished his cuppa and all systems were GO !! |

We were so confident that we even started practicing our victory salute
on the start line. After that rotten hill after the start at Sommersby, the
smiles passed quickly off our faces, especially off Rockys. As a
matter of fact a very pained expression came across Rocky's face as he
started disappearing "Out the back". |

Meanwhile, 20 kilometres up the road, the Elite boys were getting ready
to go. Guess who's legs are attached to these bright yellow booties? |

Let me give you more of a hint, here is his trusty steed. (very
nice indeed) |

The girls looked fantastic all decked out in RBCC Elite uniform.
NSW U19 Women's Individual Time Trial champion, Brittany Orr, led it out
followed by Alex Templeton, Heather Hozack and Mel Rassam just to the side
of Heather. Bad luck really visited RBCC this meet with 2 broken
chains. Had it not been for the broken chain when the girls were down
to three riders they would certainly got on the podium. I must have
killed a chinaman breaking two in two days. One on Saturday at the
ride for Life in Centennial Park and a second one on my time trial bike at
Calga. I would recommend that no one allows their bike mechanics to
join 10 speed chains without using Connix type joining links or the like.
It was clear that mine let go where it had been joined. Unfortunately
I was unable to examine Alex's chain. Photo courtesy of Ernie Smith

It's none other than Pete "The Machine" McDonald here about to start
with team mates Josh Marden, Robbie Cater and Chris "Spongee" Jenkins. |

Talking about starting, back 20km down the road at Sommersby and the
"All Show with No Go" team were off! Alan Cohen led us up the
first climb followed by Frank Fortuna, then Rocky Fortuna then me already in
tuck position (up the hill). We were at this point about 20 metres
into the 20km race. Rocky started to get into trouble about 20 metres
after this shot was taken.

Next team off was team "I've been off the bike and am not very fit"
being led out by Chris White followed by Crispin Arnell, Dave Jackson and
Steve "I've done nothing for 3 months" Horn.

Next off was the "You should be ashamed of yourself" team with
Brad Lane leading up the hill whilst big Ginge Baker and Tony "Smiley"
Aitchison take time out for a big hollywood smile to Ernie Smith. At
least Brad and Mark Murdoch in 4th wheel was taking the whole thing a bit
seriously. Photo courtesy of Ernie Smith Photos. See all Ernie's photos of

Next off was "Team Influenza" and they stopped coughing long
enough to throw a smile at Ernie as they went past. Big Andy Hall was
apparently the engine. Well after all he has been regularly training
with the All Show No Go team. Left Andy Hall leads it out with
Andy Swan, Mike Pennell and Karl Bellamy in 4th wheel.

Next off was "The Strange Arm Warmer" team. In a display of total
tastelessness they were off and were absolutely blessed to have beaten "All
Show with No Go" team by mere seconds. Nick Cater leads it out with
smiling Dave Crampton second wheel, Greg "Smartie" Smart third and James
Dalton on the back. Photo courtesy of Ernie Smith Photos. See all Ernie's

Finally the "All our Hopes are with you" team and you can
immediately see the difference. No smiles, not looking at Ernie.
Full concentration and full steam ahead. Slapper on the Argon18
time trial machine. I can't understand why they didn't win. What
happened guys? Hope they didn't get too close to Team Influenza.
Left Mark "The Slapper" Robertson leads it out followed by Pat Naughton,
Clive Hammerson and Craig "Canada" Klement bringing up the rear.

Here's our Elite Men number one team on their way to 5th overall.
Think how much better they will go next year when we actually have 4 riders
working. Josh Marden at the front followed by Robbie Cater with Pete
"The Machine" Mcdonald bringing up the rear.

Janelle Lindsay looked pretty snug up there with Tom Skulander.
RBCC did their part in assisting with the running of the event with Tom
doing the computer work, Janelle doing the announcing and Joanne Buckton
assistant Commissaire. Thanks to the other Commissaires including Cycling
NSW Vice Pres and Chief Commissaire, Glen Vigor, Ken Martin, Ron Peak, Frank
Scheen, Col Poultin, Bruce and Margaret Mills and Jeff Barrett. Sorry
if I missed anyone but these are the ones I remember.
Well that's it for another year. 40 RBCC riders was a great effort
this year. Next Years resolution - Let's actually try and win something next
year.
