CLUB SPONSORS

Randwick Botany Cycling Club is proudly sponsored by Cheeky Monkey Cycle Company Clovelly Road Centennial Park, Newington Inn – Petersham, DS Labels – Marrackville and   and Velomax Wheel Systems distributed by Excelpro.  We should explain also that whilst club sponsor Velomax Wheel systems is displayed on our club jersey, it is really the Velomax wheel systems Australian distributor Excelpro who actually sponsors us.  We are in fact sponsored by all the products distributed by Excelpro including Argon 18 bicycles,  Colnago bicycles, Velomax wheels systems, 3T cycling assessories, Parentini clothing and Speedplay pedals.

REPORT

Left, Team Dulwich Hill ready for action.  Dulwich Hill Cycling Club has a close association with Randwick Botany.  They always send a huge contingent of their riders to our races.  This week was no exception with a large percentage of their club riding membership (pictured left) competing in the RBCC crit races.

Peter McDonald proudly displayed his new Argon 18 bicycle which he raced recently in the Tour of Sunraysia.  The beautiful red and white machine is a new Argon 18 model called the "Krypton"  It is pretty appropriate for Pete "The Machine" McDonald.  Whilst there isn't much of him, he's the closest thing our club has to Superman.  Noticed Steve Forster on a new Argon18 Platinum and Matt Lucas and Josh Marden both pick theirs up this week.  Argon 18 bicycles are a sponsor of Randwick Botany and they are available via our other sponsor, Cheeky Monkey.

The A grade sprint was close but Anthony "The King " Spurgeon was rolled by Randwick Botany rider Jerzy Sowa.  Some of the A graders were unhappy with me when I made them do an extra lap (A & B would have both been on the bell lap).  They later told me that they had Spurge trying to breath through his ears and then put in a neutral lap prior to the bell allowing him to get his breath.

The King did look like he was suffering early in the race.  In fact there were a few pained expressions which was understandable given the howling gale they were racing into and they still managed 3 min laps constantly from the opening lap till about lap 7.  That's flying !!

The RBCC Train leads the bunch early in the race with Matty Lucas(partly obscurred) then Chris "Spongee" Jenkins, Jerzy "Jan" Sowa, and Pat Naughton.  Can't see Pete "The Machine" in frame but there is only one place that he can be and that's out the front driving it as he does so well.

Good shot of Pete left looking rather relaxed with "The King" sitting on his wheel and looking a little less than relaxed.

In B grade the peleton split up in the windy conditions and young Nick Rathborne just rode away and just kept riding away.  In fact, he beat them by almost half a lap which was pretty unbelievable on his own in the atrocious conditions.  Left, a couple of the Sydney boys take up the chase in the peleton.  Chris "Dowdy" Dowd looks around to see what's going on behind him.  There was no way Chris was assisting in the chase with his team mate up the road.

The B grade peleton early in the race with Neil Morris doing some work out the front and Karl Bellamy waiting for his turn.  Eventual winner, Nick Rathborne is tucked in about 7 back in the white top.

Left, Tim Bunnell and Xavier Colquhoun both looked pretty comfortable in C grade.  Tim in the white jersey and Xavier in the blue jersey behind him have both recently been upgraded from D grade.  Good work guys.

Amber Jenkins from the Sydney Club and racing in the Kinsella Hotel team colours, had a great first race in C grade having recently promoted herself from D.  Take note guys she promoted herself!  We didn't have to drag her up kicking and screaming. Good on you Amber, well done.  Talking about D grade my apologies to Ron Sproule who had a great 3rd place last week and whilst he was pictured in the podium shot I had accidentally labeled the picture as Warwick McAlpine.  Sorry Ron.

Sorry D & E grade no action shots of you.  Our photographer Tony Horneman was otherwise involved.  I am not going to say any more than that however you may have noticed when he eventually arrived that his haircut looked pretty good (and recent).  Well all the more reason to do as Amber did and get yourself up to 3pm racing with A, B & C grade.  You have a much greater chance of getting your picture taken.
