REPORT

Over twelve junior riders registered at Randwick Botany Cycling Club Saturday Criterium racing at Heffron Park, Maroubra on 18 September 2004. The young riders competed in a handicap race and individual time trial.

In the A-Grade race Luis Trueba (Lidcombe Auburn) rode away for an easy win followed by Hector Morales (Hinchinbrook), Jersy Sowa, Anthony Spurgeon (Caravello), Chris Jenkins and Saxon Johns.

Dean Preddy was the star of B-Grade, recording a solo win. Second was Julian Robert-Shaw followed by Sebastian Trueba (Penrith Panthers), Arthur Driver (Penrith Panthers) and Neil Morris.

Thomas Murdoch, also looked good in B grade.  Left, Thomas is seen also attempting a solo break-away like eventual winner above, Dean Preddy.

Bebe Lawrence (Sydney) drove the D-Grade bunch for several laps and looked in a good position to score a podium place. However, first-timer and MTB rider Alan Robb proved too strong riding away for a comfortable win. Rex Wilson was second with Ron Sproule third. Lawrence finished fifth.

Good to have Robbie Cater back from Italy.  Robbie returned home early due to health problems but that in itself has some good points and bad points.  The good point is that Robbie has identified the health problem which has been adversely affecting  his performance (God help us when he is better).  The bad point is that Robbie is off the bike for at least a month (Doctor's orders) which will be enormously hard for Robbie to take.

In other news, Ron Sproule proudly displayed Tour de France yellow Jersey signed by winner, Lance Armstrong.  It was a big hit in the club room.
