REPORT
|
|
|
 |
Racing looked very doubtful in the morning but by mid
afternoon the sun was shining and we were greeted by beautiful a
blue sky. The famous Heffron wind didn't disappoint either
and assisted in quickly drying off the track. Although
numbers were down in D & E grades, by 3pm there were plenty of
A, B and C graders raring to go. Left a bunch of B grade
heavies on the start line (and I do mean heavies!) |
| |
|
|
 |
The winner of this year’s 228km
Grafton to Inverell Cycle Classic – Peter "The Machine" McDonald
joined a strong A-Grade field in the 38km event. Averaging just
under 40kmh for the race, the A Grade peleton quickly
dispensed of quite a few riders leaving a small core to contest
the finish. Left Jerzy Sowa (eventual joint winner) leads
the A grade bunch into the Squircle. Tucked back in third
wheel is Pete "The Machine" McDonald. |
| |
|
|
 |
Unfortunately our photographer missed the A grade sprint on
the line. Here is a shot of Josh Marden and Jerzy Sowa as
their back wheels cross the line. As you can see it was
extremely close and so our Commissaires judged it a draw.
Third place went to Luis Trueba (Lidcombe Auburn) followed by
Pete "The Machine" McDonald. |

Randwick Botany Cycling Club
President John Buckton and big Steve Foster made a daring
breakaway in the B-Grade 32km race at Heffron Park on Saturday 2
October 2004. The pair made the break at the 10km mark and
stayed away for 3 laps. The bunch was back together again for
the mass sprint which was won by Kevin Black (Sydney) followed
by Arthur Driver (Penrith Panthers), Andrew Hall (Randwick
Botany) and Darren Bender (Sutherland). |

|
 |
Later B grade action with eventual second place getter,
Arthur Driver leading the B grade bunch through right hander
exiting "The Squircle". John Buckton is in second wheel,
Neil Morris third wheel and eventual winner of B grade, Kevin
Black is in 4th wheel just behind Neil. |
| |
|
|
 |
Neil Morris on the front, left, rode strongly and made
several attacks during the race in an effort to get away.
Eventual winner, Kev Black can be seen sitting on Neil's wheel.
Good to see Roger Shackleton back at Heffron again. Roger
is seen further back in the blue jersey and just behind him is
big eventual third place getter, Andy Hall. |
|
|
|
|
 |
Erin Chamberlen, pictured left in
first wheel, was the star of C-Grade. Erin remained in the
top 5 for most of the 28km. Placegetters were Nathan
Saunders (Eastern Suburbs), Matthew Cordery (Sutherland), John
Revez (Sydney) and regular placegetter Tony Caruana (Randwick
Botany). |
