REPORT
Tony Iannacito (Caravello)
used his head in the closing stages of the A-Grade 36km race at
Heffron Park on Saturday 20 November 2004. Confronted with some
top-gun riders including 2004 Grafton Inverell Classic winner Peter
"The Machine" McDonald (Randwick Botany/FRF Couriers) |
| |
Iannacito chose his time carefully to
make a winning breakaway with 1500m to go. The peleton tried to
chase him down in the final straight, but spurred on by supporters
and spectators, Iannacito pushed home to win by 20 metres. Minor
placings went to Jerzy Sowa, Nick Rathborne and Peter McDonald with
an average speed of 40kmh. |
| |
As usual Pete "The Machine" did lots of work at
the front. Anthony "The King" Spurgeon did not let him out of
his sight however and marked every attack. |
| |
Left, Pete attacks yet again and looks around to
see if he has dropped anyone off. Whilst the rubber band was
most
decidedly stretched, Tony Iannacito hung on like glue. ARGON
18 power left with first 3 bikes in photo all being Argon 18
Platinums. (Argon 18 is a club sponsor) |
| |
Another solo win was
scored in the 32km B-Grade event with visiting French based rider
David Everett from the VC Pontivy Cycling Club finishing 100 metres
ahead of the rest. |
| |
Luke Davison looks
over to see where big Roger is in the sprint. Luke managed
second place fairly effortlessly whilst big Roger Crawford took 3rd
place and Andy Hall came in fourth in the B Grade peloton sprint. |
| |
B grade action with the big men doing much of
the pace making. Left Big Andy Hall on the front with Big
Steve Foster in second wheel. Frank Fortuna must have been in
his glory sitting in 3rd wheel and orchestrating the action, giving
instructions to his star pupils. Big Roger also did "lots" of
work on the front. |
| |
The C grade sprint and Simon Llewellyn
just holds off Randwick Botany's Stewart King. |
| |
D grade action left with eventual winner, Justin
Sharples setting the pace. |
| |
Laura Bortolozzi and I looked like a couple of
bookends with Laura having a broken left collarbone and me having a
right. So if you think any of the photos are blurry try taking
photos with you weak hand only, it's quite tricky. |
| |
Tony Iannacito was jumping up and down with joy
at his win whilst team mate Spurge just nodded in agreement. |
| |
Luke waffled on about how much work he did on
the front of B grade whilst winner Dave Everett is obvioulsy in
complete agreement. |
Juniors riders competed for the first time at
their new summer start time of 4pm.
