REPORT
We said goodbye to Robbie on the startline. Left I present Robbie
with a little financial assistance from the club. Robbie is off to
Italy for about 6 weeks having been selected to represent Australia in
the Junior Worlds. We wish Robbie all the best. Wouldn't it
be fantastic to see him later on in the year with rainbow colours on his
sleeves. |
In fact it was a bit of a day of presentations. Left I present
Fred Vella with an indoor pot plant to make him feel a bit better after
his recent operation and stint in hospital. We got the indoor
plant as we know Freddy is an avid gardener (and also we didn't want to
scare him back into hospital presenting him with flowers). Jokes
aside, Freddy should really enjoy fussing over this plant. You
will all probably have noticed our Rose garden outside the club house.
That's another one of Freddy's little babies. Tony, you ought to
take a picture of the RBCC Rose garden in the near future. |

Finally to the action and
early part of the A grade race, big Roger Crawford went to the front and
just drove it. Eventual winner, Dave Stewart was just happy to sit
in in the early part of the race. |
About 6
laps to go, Dave Stewart started to come to the front of the A Grade
bunch and then he just rode away from them and just time trialled the
last 5 laps gaining ground on the field every lap. In a show of
power, Dave was clocked over the last 5 laps between 3 mins flat and 3
mins 5 sec, averaging about 3mins 3secs a lap. Now that's really
motoring by yourself. |
IN the end Dave Stewart
won the A grade event by a country mile. Left, Dave is pictured
with proud dad. |
B Grade action and left young RBCC rider, Luke Davison drives the B
grade peleton up Heffron straight in his retricted gears. Further
back eventual winner Nick Rathbourne was discussing tactics with fellow
easts rider Craig "Demmo" Demsey. Tony Horneman once again amazes us
with his photographic brilliance as he captures Nick in the podium
shot far left, in the exact millisecond when his eyes are shut.
You want to try this to see just how hard it is and what a master Tony
is at doing it. |
RBCC's Karl Bellamy is never afraid to do a bit of work at the front.
Left, Karl takes the B grade peleton up and around the 180° corner at
the end of the netball courts. All 3 place getters can be seen
close to the front with Nick Rathbourne third wheel, Kevin Black 5th
wheel and 3rd place getter Adam Bradstreet in behind Kev in 5th wheel. |
Quite a big C grade peleton as RBCC's Steve Foster takes the bunch down
Heffron straight. Curios that big Steve elected to race this afternoon
after we all put in such a big effort in the two rounds of the RBCC 2
day tour that morning. Most of us had elected to rest up in the
afternoon in preparation for the road race at Eastern Creek at 7am the
following morning. We just can't stop Steve, he just goes and goes
like an energiser battery. Eventual second place getter Chris "Dowdie"
Dowd can be seen staying close to the front. |
What's this? Dale Rockell was spotted in the middle of the C grade
bunch looking resplendent on his shining brand new Colnago. We've
since learned that Cathy knows about it however she apparently has no
idea how much it cost. Well at least he no longer has to hide it
in the garage. It now lives where it should. In the bedroom. |
Left Heather Hozack rode a very gutsy ride and stayed with C grade for a
substantial part of the race. Heather, who's main love is
triathlon, tells me that she was inspired by her recent run in the
women's team time trial event at Calga and has changed her training
around from 3 days a week on the bike and 5 in the pool to 5 days on the
bike and 3 days in the pool. So watch out in the future. |
Some action shots of D and E grades this week. Left , eventual
third place getter, RBCC's George Youhanna, takes the D grade bunch up
Heffron straight. Just on his right is RBCC stalwart Tony
Aitchison and just behind 4th place getter RBCC's Nick Wade. |
Eventual second place getter, Sydney's Amber Jenkins takes the D grade
bunch through the sharp left hander at the netball courts. |
John Siounnis takes the E Grade bunch through the left hander at the
Netball courts with Leeann Emery second wheel and eventual winner Kevin
Malcolm tucked in at third wheel. Kevin eventually upped the pace
and escaped from the bunch for a ride away victory. Malcolm later
told me that he attributed the win to a meal of Pizza before the event.
Malcolm usually tucks into some fish, chips and calamari rings prior to
racing but he thinks he might now be on the winning formula and might
stick with the pizza from now on. |

Above, some smiling faces captured on the startline.
Can you guess who are they? |
