Above, I demonstrate sitting a wheel to the U15's. There is little
dispute amongst many members of my expertise in this particular skill. |
THANK YOU:
Thanks to our
Commissaire Helen Vella & Jenny Spurgeon. Thanks to
Janette Murdoch who conducted Juniors. Thanks
to our safety marshals, Peter Davison, Suzi Jackson & Steve
Forster. Thanks to Tony Horneman for track preparation
and Richard Jenkins who deployed & retrieved all the witches
hats. Thanks to Anna Fortuna who worked tirelessly in
the canteen. Left, I give the attentive audience of riders
some rules and safety tips prior to racing
REPORT

 |
Well we finally stopped Josh Marden from winning. Josh
(pictured left), only came second in the A-Grade 36
kilometre scratch race at Heffron Park on Saturday 27
March 2004.
|
|
 |
It took "The King of Heffron" -Anthony
Spurgeon (Caravello) to finally to put a halt to Josh's
winning streak. Very close though. Only half a wheel
in it. (see picture left) |
|
Lining up with 13 other A-Grade hopeful, Marden’s
performance is all the more impressive given that he
joined the Randwick Botany Cycling Club in January 2004
and won his first D-Grade race in February. Josh is new
to cycling coming from a speed skating background.

|
 |
The King takes A grade over the pimple.
Matty Lucas is able to stay close almost effortlessly
riding the "dream machine" loner. |
| |
|
|
 |
A fine ride also from Jacob Borger
(Clarence Street) who placed third. The rest of the A
grade field can be seen storming home in this longer
picture of the A grade sprint. |
| |
|
 |
Matty Lucas, looking resplendent in his
RBCC Elite uniform lined up with a very hi tech, exotic
"loner" (unfortunately obscured in the photo left) to do
battle with the other A graders. Unfortunately, Matt
had not one, but two punctures during the race which
effectively put him out of the competition. He was
lookinjg forward to having a sprint against Josh.
One set of ex speed skaters legs against another. |

Pete "The Machine" Macdonald shows off
his new Cheeky Monkey sponsored Orbea. Actually two
of our club sponsors are featured in this shot. To
give his Cheeky Monkey Orbea that little extra, Pete
like many other club members, use Velomax wheels. |
 |
Here's some more of the Cheeky Monkey
team. Clive Hammerson (right of picture) had a fine,
but close, win in B grade. |
|
Clive got away from the peleton on the bell lap and was
coasting home for victory seemingly unaware that 14 year
old Luke Davison, the current U15 National U15 Men's 250
metre Track Champion, was charging home in the peleton
sprint and got level with Clive's back wheel as they
crossed the finish line. A fantastic second place by
the young rider in only his second ride in B grade.
|
| |
|
 |
Big Sean O'Neill in his
first ride with B grade takes the peleton up and over the
pimple. Eventual winner, Clive Hammerson happily
sits second wheel. |
| |
|
 |
Even bigger Chris Reynold,
I think also in his first B grade ride, drives over the
pimple whilst Rocky Fortuna and I suffer trying to hold
his wheel. |
| |
|
 |
Daniel Vanolini, eventual B
grade 3rd place getter, leads an early B grade break with
Tom Murdoch, Frank Fortuna and Brendan Ingram. We
eventually got them back though. |
In C grade action,
thirteen-year-old Tom Patton tried his hand in the 28km
C-Grade race and stayed with the bunch to the end. Strongman
Richard Westmoreland stormed home to win, followed by Steve
Issaksen (Lidcombe-Auburn) and Adam Bradstreet (Randwick
Botany).
|
 |
There are 2 possibilities in the
picture left. First - Tony Horneman makes a break
off the front of C grade in an effort to get away for a
solo win, or secondly - He saw the photographer Dave
Patton. |
|
I
leave you to formulate your own conclusion. Eventual
winner, Richard Westmoreland doesn't seem too concerned
smiling in the background |
Good to see Mark Murdoch up on the D grade podium with a third
placing. Alex Lazich had a great ride to win the D grade
event.
In E grade, RBCC rider Joe Gatt attacked off the front and won
with a fine solo break-away. Good work Joe.
