REPORT
|
|
|
 |
Club sponsor Cheeky Monkey erected their tent and had a
fine display of merchandise on hand for riders to check
out, including a lovely Argon 18. |
|
I'm afraid I'm a little biased about the Argons. (I liked
them so much that I bought two of them)- but I digress.
RBCC has an unprecedented 10 teams entered in the State
Team Time Trial. If nothing else, I should at least look
the part. Here's one of my babies above (available through
Cheeky Monkey). |
| |
|
|
 |
Although
there were several attacks during the race, A Grade
largely stayed together. Left Pete "The
Machine" McDonald pictured where he does most of his time,
out the front driving the bunch. Tucked in behind
him is big Chris Reynolds having his first run in A grade
with Pat Naughton not far behind. |
| |
|
|
 |
Team
Parentini, Alan
Cohen and Frank Fortuna had a great ride in A grade, which
has me a little worried in that they are both in my team
for the State Team Time Trial in a couple of weeks time.
I feel some pain coming my way. |

|
 |
B grade
action with eventual winner, Simon Vagg of the Kinselas
Hotel team, leading the way whilst Neil Morris (who is as
fit as ten men at the moment) watches every move that
Simon makes, James Dalton in the background seems
amused by the whole situation. |
| |
|
|
 |
Left Simon
takes out the B grade sprint. The first three place
getters got away with about 2 to go and whilst the peleton
probably could have caught them, there was a lot of
screaming at each other but unfortunately not much
swapping off turns and rolling over. |
| |
|
|
 |
All the
action was back in the peleton sprint for 4th place with
me taking it from Keegan Aitchison in the narrowest of
margins on the line. I thought that Keegan may have
just pipped me on the line however impartial Commissaire
Joanne Buckton (my wife) named me as 4th place getter.
Sorry Keegan. |
|
Photo above also shows Rocky Fortuna standing on the
sideline watching the sprint. I think Rocky must
have learn't something as he took 3rd place in B grade in
the Waratah Vets racing at Heffron the following day
(Sunday 1 Aug 2004). Congratulations Rocky.
Rocky won a monetary gift voucher from Cheeky Monkey but I
don't think that they ever have to worry about it be
redeemed. I think it more likely that it will be in
a frame proudly displayed on a wall in the Fortuna
household. Poor Chris Reynolds also pictured had a
fall in the A grade race at the Vets. It should have
only been a 1" (25 millimitre) graze but it was a little
nasty. Given that Chris's calves are about 4 times the
size of everyone elses, so was the graze. The Argon
was ok and that's the main thing. No scratches on the 10 speed
Dura-Ace either. Phweeeee................ |

 |
Here's our
resident ParaOlympian, Janelle Lindsay soon off to Athens.
Janelle is competing in the tandem events with vision
impaired rider Lindy Hou. Yes Janelle is doing the
steering!! Lindy is very trusting. We wish them both
the best of luck and would love to see an Olympic medal
brought back home. Tony caught Janelle (pictured
left) carbo-loading on an orange serpent (I hope they are
legal) just before the start of the C grade race. Janelle
had a good ride and finished third in C Grade. |
| |
|
|
 |
C Grade
action with Dale Rockell driving the bunch. Janelle
can be seen sitting in third wheel looking pretty happy
and comfortable or is that pretty, happy and comfortable.
Janelle, rides like Jan and looks like Elle. |
| |
|
|
 |
Rhys Fagan
from the Sydney club crosses the line first to take out
the C grade event. Congratulations Rhys. Where's the
others ? |
| |
|
|
 |
Left,
Randwick Botany's Xavier Calquhoun takes out D grade.
Pete "The Machine" McDonald can be seen on the start
finish line trying his hand at photography. He's
waiting to snap "The Boss", Adam Hogan of Cheeky Monkey.
|
|
Just as Adam approached the line, Pete had him in focus
and I asked him what all the beeping was about. Pete
told me, "Hope Adam's not upset, the battery just ran out"
Good one Pete. Tony your job is safe for a while
longer.
Sorry E Grade, no action shots of you.
Tony H was late. In junior news, new member
Jack Vignes, had his first race and looked fantastic on
the bike. Thankfully he sits a bike like mom Lucy
and not dad Laurant (Just kidding Laurie). Jack
(pictured left) posted a fantastic time for his first ever 2 kilometre
time trial of 4 minutes 36 seconds. Jack later did a
4 km time trial and lost very little time on his second
lap so it is looking like Jack has inherited dad's
endurance. In fact all the kids had fantastic
rides with several PB's including Adriano Maradini who
took a second off his best time in a 3.37. Well
that's it till next week.
