A huge crowd gathered at the finish line to watch the action of the A, B
& C grade events. Freddy Vella makes the going a bit tough for
Commissaire's Joanne and wife Helen. Helen is straining to see
around the crowd. You're not made of glass you
know Freddie. Also in the picture are B grade wives Rossana
Fortuna and Lynne Cohen. Congratulations to Rosanna who had her
first race in D grade earlier. |

As usual Jersy Sowa did
lots of work at the front. It's probably just a coincidence,
however in the approximately 6 shots that Tony H took of A grade around
the track, eventual winner, John Kenny was always tucked in (sucking
wheel) with a big smile on his face. (Frank Conceicao has taught his
boys this racing technique but it is widely agreed that he remains the
master of the technique) |
Tony Iannacito leads A grade into the "Squircle". Tony is great
around the sharp corners and doesn't mind getting the bike right over as
picture left shows. I have seen Tony on numerous occasions
actually significantly gap riders through these tight corners. |
John Kenny got away in the last lap. Left, Jersy cruises in for
2nd place. Tony Iannicito thought he had third place tied up
before Warrick Edwards came over him towards the end of the sprint.
Left Tony is upset with himself after he loses third place. |

Good to see big Roger Crawford back after an extended holiday.
Roger doesn't seem to have lost much fitness as he mixed it up with
fellow A graders. |
Big Chris Reynolds looked very focused before the start.
Don't know if we will be calling him the "Big Fella" much longer.
He's under 100kgs and falling. Then again I don't reckon he
can get much under 90kgs as those legs of his look about 35 kilos
each! Chris did a lot of work on the front of the B grade race and
then threw about 1500 watts at the pedals in the sprint to blast
away from all would be rivals. |
Here's the "Big Fella" taking B grade up the pimple. Tucked in
behind him is the Frank Fortuna training squad including Andy Hall and
myself. Further back Frank has a look around to see what his star
pupil is doing. |
Alan Cohen, left had a fantastic race as well and did plenty of work out
the front. Here's my fellow Team time trial members, Alan Cohen
(who must have been giving 10 tenths as he looked in pain in every
photo) with Rocky behind him and then the team coach Frank Fortuna
choreographing the action from third wheel. It was unusual but not
unexpected to see Rocky near the front as we had told him that if he
didn't perform today, he was off the Time Trial Team. |
Here's another shot of the B grade action with Neil Morris taking the
peleton aroung the 180 degree corner at the Netball courts. Alan
still looks in pain in second wheel, then Frank, then me with Whitey
never too far behind. Where's our 4th member? Where are you
Rocky? |
Have a heart Tony H. What are you taking this shot for? I have to
put up with watching Frank and Rocky's rear ends for 20 kilometres next
Sunday in the State Team Time Trial. This is just down right mean
taking these shots. We are trying to get female members INTO the
club you know not turn them away. |

Super coach sucks the wheel of his star pupil the "Big Fella" in the B
grade sprint. He later told me that if he wasn't a bit sick he
would have come over the big fella. I never said anything but I
remembered those immortal words from the Australian cult classic movie,
"The Castle", that Shaun Higgo is always quoting. "Tell him he's
dreaming!", came to mind. So in the end it was Team Argon. Chris and Frank first and second
both riding club sponsor Argon 18 bicycles with Velomax wheels. |

Dave Crampton is improving all the time probably directly attributable
to the Frank Fortuna morning school of "T.........". (I'm not sure
if the word should be Training or Torture). |
C grade action with C Grade stalwart, Wayne Goold enjoying every minute
of it. Just in front of Wayne is Scotty Rice who I am sure will be
back up to B grade in no time at all. (Especially if he comes out on the
Fortuna torture - I mean training - sessions) |
I think that if we had to award a rider of the day award to anyone it
would have to be Alan Cohen. Alan has really lifted of late probably
directly attributable to the Frank Fortuna "T........ sessions".
Here he is left with wife Lynn and the kids and finally an expression
other than pain lights up his face. Good on you Alan. I hope
I can keep up with you guys in the Team Time Trial. |

Here's some photos on the start line. Left Tony Iannacito
4th place getter in A grade and right Adam Bradstreet, 3rd place
getter in B Grade. Gee, Club sponsor Velomax wheels are
popular. |

Left, Eventual second place
getter in the A grade event, RBCC's Jersy Sowa pictured ready for action
on the starting line. |

Ross McKay has a tricky way
of taking daughter Rebecca to the races. He makes her work on the
way to Heffron then simply "Unbolts" her and leaves her to the side
whilst he races. After racing he "Rebolts" her and then makes her
pedal him home whilst he free-wheels. What a meanie !
"There's a hill coming up Rebecca, PEDAL !!!" |

Sorry D & E Grade, no action shots of you.
You are going to have to have stern words with Tony H.
In junior news, several juniors set PB's in the one lap time
trial. Taylor Weetman rode like a demon to take out the one lap
handicap with Jack Vignes placing second and fast finishing Andrew
Weetman storming home for third place. Congratulations guys and
girl. Well
that's it for another week.
