REPORT
Hector Morales and Gorge
Libonatti from the Hinchinbrook club demolished the 18-rider
36km A-Grade race at Heffron Park on Saturday 9 October 2004.
In an awesome demonstration of sheer power and strength, the
pair broke away early in the race to built a 1km lead on the
chasing bunch. The pair sprinted for first and second place
with Morales winning. The average speed was 41kmh. |
| |
The bunch sprint for the minor
places (photo above) saw Chris Jenkins (Randwick Botany)
narrowly beat Nick Rathborne (Eastern Suburbs) for third place.
Josh Marden (Randwick Botany) finishing fifth. |

B grade action and pictured
left Arthur Driver who has been in great form of late,
negotiates the left hander into "The Squircle". On his
left is Adam Bradstreet and tucked in behind is Frank Fortuna. |
| |
I wish I had taken the bets at the start finish line with
people asking me who I was backing to win B grade. I told
them if Chris "Brutus" Reynolds had some left in the tank on the
final sprint that there was no one capable of going over him and
Brutus looked pretty fresh about 3 to go (left) |
| |
Brutus was so fast that he even beat Tony who missed him
crossing the finish line. Ian Russell was second and as
fate would have it, Tony got a great picture of the closely
contested 3rd spot with Karl Bellamy throwing for the line and
just beating Adam Bradstreet. |
C grade action and left Greg Smart and Colnago powered, Dale
Rockell do what they both do well, "Sit in". They must
have been watching me. |

Eventual winner Richard Westmoreland sits in behind a fellow
RBCC clubmate. Richard is super fit at the moment and
attributes his victory to a recent Steve Hogg Cyclefit. |
Tony Aitchison was really doing it tough. Left he is
picture in the closing stages of the race almost a shattered
unit with his tongue hanging out. Tucked in behind him is
Murray Booth. Murray is improving all the time. |
Left, eventual D grade second place getter, Sydney's Gavin
Russell leads our own RBCC super chef Herve Boutin. French
born master cordon bleu super chef, Herve cooked for the French
Olympic team when they were over here for the 2000 Olympics and
cooked for his hero Laurent Jalabert. |

It was great to have Jenny Spurgeon back down to help us.
Jenny has been overseas on holiday. Jenny for those of you
who don't know is Anthony "The King of Heffron" Spurgeon's mum.
Good on you Jenny. |

Congratulations to raffle winner Nick Rathbourne. Left
our Paralympic Gold medalist, Janelle Lindsay pulls out the
winning ticket whilst our Treasurer, Tricky Dickey Jenkins
assists. |

A face only a mother could love. The Rock Star looked
pretty happy before the B grade race however not so happy about
2 laps later. Left, the "Before" shot. You have
probably all seen the typical "After" shot. His dentist is
very familiar with it. |
