REPORT

Nathan Page pretty well turned on the horsepower from the start and then just rode away from the A grade field as if he was doing a 36km time trial. I am proud to report that Nathan is now a member of our Elite Team and wish him every success in the big races to come.

Left Josh Marden away from the A grade peleton and chasing the leader Nathan Page.  Here Josh passes the B grade bunch in pursuit of the lone leader.  Nathan was keeping a close eye on him and at one point Josh was able to get fairly close, his approach being largely hidden by B grade.  As soon as Nathan saw him however he was out of the saddle and driving down the straight once again building a large gap on the second place getter.

With some of the RBCC "Big Guns" back from the opens this week, and whilst the Sydney boys has a taste of victory last week, they had to battle for the minor placings this week.  In a titanic sprint Steve Ofanis in a throw for the line just edged out last week's winner Dave McHugh for third place.

Every shot I took of B grade, Chris "Brutus" Reynolds was out the front.  Here's Brutus taking the bunch past the netball courts and into the 180.

Here's the "Big Fella" turning on the power (and I do mean power - we saw him peak a power output meter once in sand shoes in about 2 pedal strokes.  He stuck the needle on 1000 watts- that's as far as it went - I reckon he stuck about 2000 watts into it in those 2 pedal strokes)

Here's the Big Fella with Kevie Black hooked on the back for a bit of a hit off the front of B grade.

Just in case you feel as though you have not seen enough pictures of the Big Fella, here he is taking victory.  I know one person who probably won't mind looking at too many pictures of him but I am sworn to secrecy.

C grade action and First and second place getters, Rodney Mendez and RBCC's Andy Portess keep an eye on the front whilst back in about 4 and 5th wheel.

Domenic Caravello brought down 4 of his Under 17 kids to give them a run in C grade.  Here they are warming up in the carpark.  They stirred C grade up a bit practising their team tactics.

A huge D grade bunch and as always big Barry Mourad (far right) kept a close eye on the front of the bunch.  Eventual winner Sydney rider George Tragaris would like to thank 2 RBCC riders for his victory.  Firstly Anthony Bailon who led him out down the straight until 200m to go and big Barry for pulling his foot in the sprint and relegating himself to third place.

The D grade sprint and sorry guys I got to excited and clicked the photo too early.  Could have done with a photo finish as we had a hard time working out the final placings.  In the end it was decided that third place was a dead heat between RBCC's Barry Mourad and Barry Doosey of Sydney Club.

In her first ever race, Lauren Degney took a leaf out of her coach's (hint - check out any B grade photo) book and drove the E grade bunch along. Though at other times it was good to see her "sitting on" and using the skills that she has learnt in our training rides.

In style reminiscent of the Big Fella with elbows flaring and sprinting in the saddle, Lauren blasted home to win the first cycle race she has ever competed in. Not a bad start Lauren.  Ok Big Fella, I think it is time for Lauren's next lesson, "Riding with your hands on the drops".  She tells me that she gets mighty thirsty as well so perhaps you can add in, "How to take the bidon out of the cage whilst riding".  As for other skills she has had the benefits of experts.  I reckon I can teach her no more on the art of "Sucking wheel".
