REPORT
Sorry D, E & F grades but as your Commissarie, I was pretty
busy recording laps, and judging finishes without also having
to take pictures as well. So with Tony "Snaps" Horneman
away sick, I was only able to take podium shots this week for
the lower grades. Higher grades take note that this week
was the first race I've done for as long as I can remember and
I unselfishly dropped out early so I could capture your
finishing sprints. As to the vicious and untruthful
rumor that I went "OTA", all I can say is "No Comment"
and further, "Rocky Fortuna, stop circulating your vicious
untruths". Talking about Rocky Fortuna, he and I stirred
up B grade when we attacked off the line and started swapping
off turns. Discussions with fellow B grade riders after
the race revealed that we had them very worried and we might
well have stayed away if Rocky hadn't blown up. You'll have to
take my word for it because we haven't got a photo.
Well there was about 6 riders in A grade and about 106 in B
grade. I asked if any of the vast multitude of B graders
wanted to go up and have a race with the A graders but no the
poor darlings are all not fit enough to race at 2kph average
faster when they can freewheel and sit in the middle of the
pack in B grade. As you know many of these B graders are
only doing about 150km a week, just ask them they'll tell you.
Take 3rd place getter for example, poor Karl, who incidentally
won last week, must have had a poor training week this week.
I think he only got out one day. Yes he was spotted
cycling around Gosford on one of his little 8 1/2 hr training
rides from Sydney to Gosford, Ettalong, Umina and surrounding
suburbs and then back to Sydney. You really need to get
out more Karl and treat your training a little more seriously.

 |
Well taking about the A
graders, here's three of them on the bell lap with Josh
Marden leading them into the final 2km. Paddy Jones is
gritting his teeth big time. |
| |
|
|
 |
The A sprint and we were
wondering what the hell was going on momentarily till we
realised that they were doing "Track Stands" at the bottom
of the straight some 400 metres away waiting for someone to
lead out. Finally someone led out and Josh mis-judged
the acceleration of Brent Skippen being unable to bridge the
gap and settling for 2nd place. Paddy Jones cruised in
for third. |

|
|
 |
B grade action and Andrew Kirk
leads the bunch down the start finish straight. Tucked
in 4th wheel just behind Caravello junior Richard Lang, is
Patrick O'Shea (eventual 2nd place getter). Further
back all in black is new member Tony "The Bug" Corrigan. |
|
|
|
 |
Bell lap in B grade and big
Calvin Smith launched himself off the front. I think
he has come up with the way to win B grade as the remaining
peloton riders looked at each other in an effort to
determine who was going to chase down Calvin and run the
risk of having nothing left for the sprint. Whilst all
this was happening, Calvin just rode further away eventually
coming home with a win by a very comfortable margin. |
| |
|
|
 |
Meanwhile back at the peloton
and second place came down to a battle between RBCC riders
Patrick O'Shea, Karl Bellamy and big Andy Hall. |
| |
|
|
 |
An early escape of 5 was where
the action was in C grade. The five worked well
together to stay away from the chasing bunch. |
| |
|
|
 |
The C grade sprint and 63 year
old Tony Caruana gives a couple of young Easts riders a bit
of a lesson. Boys I think you better go and ask Concey
what went wrong. |
| |
|
|
 |
So where was Big Bazza, last
week's C grade winner? Answer: "OTA"
(that's an expression which suggests that he just lost the
wheel of the rider in front of him and slowly drifted off
the rear of the peloton). Here he is shouting some
vain excuse to the camerman. Yeah right Bazza, you got
2 flat tyres and the chain came off. Yeah and another
50 laps and you would have got back on. Yeah right.
We understand !! |
Well that's it till next week.
