REPORT
|
 |
With many of RBCC's riders having raced at the Ride for
Life open at Centennial Park, the fields in the afternoon
was quite reduced. Left Richard "Lance" Westmoreland
leads the A/B bunch down the start/finish straight of
Heffron Park. |
| |
|
|
 |
Pat "paddy" Jones leaves his run a touch too late in the
A/B sprint and is narrowly beaten home by Hugh Kimber of
Peleton Sports |
| |
|
|
 |
Karl Bellamy, hams it up for the camera in the A/B grade
race. Rex Wilson in third wheel seems to be getting
fitter and fitter every week. |
| |
|
|
 |
Rick Jordan and another rider escaped early in C grade
and spent most of the race working together in an attempt to
stay away from the chasing C grade peleton. Rick told
me after the race that he was no sprinter and if he was to
taste victory it would have to come by way of an escape. |
| |
|
|
 |
The bad news for Rick however was that; "Meanwhile back
at the peleton", RBCC's "Queen of Heffron" and current
leader of the NSW Roadwoman of the year, Laura Bortoluzzi
was driving the bunch along and all the male chauvinists in
the bunch were happy to let her do the work |
| |
|
|
 |
Here's the escapees with Rick out of the saddle and
driving over "The Pimple" in a last ditch effort to stave
off inevitable capture by the chasing C grade peleton. |
| |
|
|
 |
Pandemonium in the C
grade sprint as we see several riders go down firstly on the
left hand of the track then as I click this shot (you will
have to click on the image and enlarge it to see), more
riders go tumbling over on the right hand side of the track.
Luckily the falls seemed to be on the extremities of both
sides of the track so the riders largely tumbled on grass
and sand. Luckily the injuries were largely restricted
to pride.
|
| |
|
|
 |
Now if we zoom in a millisecond prior to the photo
above, we can see the skills of Shaun Ballesty who is in
fact leading the sprint at this point. Shaun has
apparently avoided both the riders tumbling to his left,
gone out over the grass and through the dirt, come back onto
the track in a totally aerodynamic position head
tucked low and is at this point leading the race. Only
problem is that he has lost the engine with both his feet
out of the pedals. Bad luck Shaun or should I say bit
of good luck. |

Sorry D grade no action shots of you. Left an
acton shot of E/F grade and Cannibal Clothing please take
note of the winner of this grade. When you made up the
4XL jersey for us and commented that you couldn't believe
there was a cyclist that big, please let me introduce you to
the winner of this race, Andrew Pike. Andrew is a "Man
Mountain" with a 48" chest in the old scale and we are going
to need you to knock up a 5XL or two as he is actually
bigger than the last guy you made the 4XL for !! For your
information just about all the big men in F grade take 3XL
and anyone smaller than that get sand kicked in their faces. |
