REPORT

Sorry Gang but with being sole Commissaire and timing all the laps over 3 grades, judging finishes etc, I didn't have a great deal of time to take pictures as well.  So only got one action shots of the lower grades this week.

Whilst A grade only had 6 riders in it, it was a very good race.  Unfortunately for Chris "Spongee" Jenkins, beside himself, every other rider in the race were Eastern Suburbs riders.  The Easts boys gave poor old spongee a good working over sending riders up the road and making poor Spongee chase down the breaks. If Spongee didn't already have enough problems to deal with he then got a puncture.  He came in and the only thing available was a 9 speed wheel which he promptly put in his his 10 speed groupset.  With all the hassles getting to fit, the bunch went past and Spongee had to chase.  Spongee took a little shortcut to get back on which technically could have seen him disqualified.  The Sponge clanged and clunked past the start/finish line trying to mesh his 10 speed shifters with his borrowed 9 speed rear cluster.  The Easts boys continued to throw everything at him but in the end Spongee sprinted home first across the line.  In a fabulous show of sportsmanship, the Easts boys announced that Spongee was too good and deserved the win even if technically he might have "bent" one of rules.  So Spongee was awarded first place with Nick Rathbourne second, John Kenny third and Stewart "Computer" Campbell fourth.

Karl Bellamy had a great race in B grade and even managed to hold off fast finishing sprinter Robert Lang to take the win in B Grade.  Peter O'Connor has made a pretty smooth transistion to B grade and is now taking places in the higher grade.

New RBCC member Shannon Meehan had a great ride in the C grade race with a fine win.  It was a one/two finish with Shane Bedford placing second.

In D grade, Easts rider Myles Hannan who informed the girls that he had only ever raced twice before, proceeded to ride away from the D grade bunch on lap 1.  About 7 or 8 chasers got together and were swapping off turns nicely in an effort to get him back however whilst they managed to drop the remainder of the D grade bunch who were scattered around the track in dribs and drabs, all they did was to lose further time on Hannan.

Hannan later told fellow riders that he had averaged 38kph by himself  for 10 laps or 20 kilometres.  Well Myles that is B grade pace.  C grade only averaged 36kph this week.  You would have ridden away form them as well.

Well that's it till next week.
