REPORT
|
 |
At some early point in the A grade event
two of RBCC/FRF's Elite team decided to do some team time
trial practice and proceeded to swap off turns so that in
the end they averaged just under 42kph and lapped the field.
Nice one Josh and Nathan. |
| |
|
|
 |
Meanwhile back in the chasing A grade
peloton, there were plenty of attacks. Our own Nathan
"Rollo" Rollason marking every one. |
| |
|
|
 |
The A sprint was a little bit of an
anti-climax with Nathan Page just coming in ahead of team
mate Josh Marden. The two just made contact with the
back of the A peloton as they finished so ended up doing
another lap with the main field. |
| |
|
|
 |
There were plenty of B attacks and the
pace was on with a 39.5kph average speed. I softened
them up early and contrary to popular belief, I left the
race about lap 9 to take these action shots not because I
was stu*#ed. I must say my beautiful new Argon 18
Gallium felt fantastic in its first ever race. |
| |
|
|
 |
In fact I could be wrong but I'm not
sure that the Sydney/Kinsella Hotel team didn't have some
sort of race tactic happening in the B grade race or was it
just my imagination that a big bunch of them were up the
front controlling things. |

A big C grade peloton and the two Steam
boys were always together and never too far from the front.
They must have thought they had it won except for a strange
twist of fate. Big Clavin Smith well known for the
meticulous preparation of his racing machine, realised that
his saddle was moving around about lap 5. |
Whilst
Calvin pondered as to why the saddle felt wobbly he
suddenly heard metal tinkering as it bounced along the
ground and back through the peloton. Calvin wondered
what equipment was bouncing down the road and suddenly
realised that it was the top of the clamp which fastens
the saddle to the seatpost.
Fortunately he discovered that if he sat right back on the
saddle and didn’t stand up he didn’t need to hold it in
place! With a sprint out of the question he thought he'd
give a breakaway a go with a lap left, which took the 2
Steam riders totally by surprise when BIG Calvin the
sprinter suddenly took off like a pursuiter.
Fortunately it worked out – although the steam trio were
closing like exocet missiles towards the finish line. As
soon as Calvin finished he lent forward and the seat
dropped off!! Good one Calvin. We want to see
a little more meticulous preparation before you enter B
grade next week.

 |
Sorry Calvin I the drama got me a little
trigger happy and I clicked the camera when you were still
4 metres from the line. |
| |
|
| Well, whilst I am
apologising, let me say sorry to D& E grades as well.
Sorry guys but I took a warm up ride and hence no action
shots of you guys and girls this week. Got back for
the podium shots though. Well that's it till next
week. See you all then. |
