REPORT
Well a little
hard to report this week in that it was my first race back
since my injury last year and I therefore only saw the
action as it came past me. Thanks to Frank Fortuna who
took up the role of club photographer this week. |
Well, early in the race
Chris "Spongee Jenkins" came past with Liam Kelly. Two
RBCC away, that's good I thought to myself. |
| |
Here's the peloton less
Spongee and Liam and Dave Treacy seems to be contemplating
one of those famous attacks off the front. |
| |
Left Dave leads the A grade
peloton around C grade. Obviously as race reporter I
have to be sitting at the back of C grade (in case anyone
wondered)Big Craig Blundell has a big smile on his face as
if to say, "There's no way I'm jumping on a higher grade
this week." Just kidding Craig. |
| |
A couple of laps later and
Dave Treacy has latched on the back and the peloton is
nowhere in site. Dave must have had a "Huge" dig to
get across to the break, I think to myself. |
| |
In the end it was Liam
first. How the hell Dave Rae and Paddy Jones got
across to the break, I have no idea and what happened to
Spongee? He later told me that he went "out the back".
| |
B grade looked good as the
"Blue Train" rolled past with James Dalton rolling off to
let Chris "Brutus" Reynolds take the helm with Andy Matthews
uncharacteristically third, Steve Foster 4th and the "Old
bloke", Chris White in fifth wheel. |
| |
Didn't take long for "Big
Roger" Crawford to take charge and drive the "Blue Train".
It is our fault not Rogers that he is not in the new kit by
the way. To put it delicately we found ourselves
"Lycra challenged" in terms of new kit for big Rog.
Coming soon though !! |
| |
Big Roger never looked
challenged as he lead out and just rode away over the 400
metre sprint to the finish. |
| |
It still hurts though.
Yes Roger is human as this photo demonstrates with Roger
sucking in the "big ones" as he rolls past the finish line. |
| |
C grade action and Laura
Bortoluzzi spends a fair bit of time at the front driving
the bunch. |
| |
Craig Blundell seemed in a
good mood today, he never had a smile off his face.
Left Craig gives Laura a bit of a rest and drives the bunch
along. |
| |
The C grade podium and I was
a little surprised when none of the 3 East's riders who
seemed to dominate the later part of the race, got on the
podium. Boys. Frank C has obviously not instructed you
in the art of "Wheelsucking" yet. Congratulations
Wayne on a fine win. |
| |
D grade action with eventual
2nd place getter, Jason Douglas (3rd wheel), staying close
to the front. |
| |
E grade action was fast and
furious. Left Kevin Malcolm chases down a break. |
| |
E grade is where you find
the "Big Men" of racing. Now we say that Roger
Crawford is "Big" in B grade but if they were all at the
beach, these guys would kick sand in his face! Big
Barry Mourad and Joe Gatt turn on the power out of "the
Squircle." |
