REPORT
This was the first test race for our new A Open and A Club
scratch race. It is not really a handicap, it is
designed for A grade to come together at about the 10 lap
mark. We couldn't get anyone to leave B grade because
they were being parked by the roadside in 2 or 3 laps by the
Open A graders. It was hoped that by designing the
race in this way, the Club As would work together and when
at last caught by the open As, some of the sting might be
knocked out of the Open A's in catching the club As
resulting in the club A's being able to hang on in the
latter part of the race and be competitive. Well it
worked perfectly with A Open catching A club about lap 10.
Most of the A club were able to then stay till the end of
the race and in fact two of the Club As took overall
placings, being Matt Lucas first and Luke Davison 3rd.
We have now kicked Matt up to Open A. (I should say rather
subtly urged him)
There were quite a number of positive reports about the race
and all seemed to enjoy it. The strategy has created
quite a decent A grade field whilst at the same time
bringing down what was getting a far too large B grade
field.
More pictures/story coming soon. |
