REPORT
As Commissaire I informed the riders on the line, given the
threatening weather conditions, that the race distance might be
cut down and that they may receive the bell early if I felt the
conditions might become unsafe. As suspected rain came
down heavily about half way through the A, B & C grade scratch
races and they were immediately given the bell and informed over
the PA system to ride the last lap sensibly in the now slippery
conditions. Thankfully those who elected to finish the
race completed the last lap and sprint without incident.
There were some calls however at presentation time to roll the
prizemoney over to next week. Facts are:
1. Riders were advised that the race might be shortened
2. Riders were given the bell and all knew that the sprint
would be at the end of the bell lap.
3. Riders in each of the grades sprinted and placings were
closely contested.

|
As far as I am
concerned it was a correctly conducted race with legitimate
placings obtained by those who elected to conduct the
sprint. I would have no basis on which to call it a
Non-race and roll the prisemoney over. So to those who
called out for it, sorry but those riders who took placings were
quite entitled to be rewarded for their efforts.
Now on a happier note here is some pictures from the day's
events:
A grade on the line
B grade on the line
C grade starts and Big Chief
Jarootha is not waiting for anyone
Matthew Kiem (Big Chief
Jarootha's young bloke) wins D grade easily. He must have
been taken a few tips from the old man. I said to them
both, "Matt could probably go straight to B Grade" Big
Chief told me however that he wanted Matt to ride C grade a
couple of weeks so that he too could enjoy humiliating
"Knuckle" Crampton.
The D grade peleton sprint for
second place with Simon Bolton taking out second and our 1956
Olympian Carlo Ghisolfi pipping Adriano Maradini out of third.
E grade sprint and Leanne who
spent a lot of time out the front by herself is caught on the
bell lap and just pipped by Grant Walker from the Central Coast
for first place
F Grade sprint and the "Big
Men" go head to head. They crossed the line so close that
we were unable to call the winner. The boys were awarded
equal first place with Sandie Mackey rolling in for third.
