REPORT

I must applaud the actions of E grade who put the "race at all costs" mentality aside and collectively came to a stop during the race alongside the Commissaire to inform me of a dangerous incident.  Because of these actions I was able to quickly deploy our safety marshals to the scene who in turn had Police there in a very short time, with two offenders in custody a short time later.  It is good to remember that this is Saturday afternoon club racing and not the Tour de France.

We do it for the love of our chosen sport, for the excitement that racing brings, for the fitness and the enjoyment. Unlike Professionals who still get paid whilst their collarbone knits, we, in the vast majority have to go to work on Monday and would like to do so without plaster casts or crutches.  I have to therefore stop and give credit where it is due when I see riders putting the safety of themselves and their fellow riders above the "win at all costs" mentality that takes possession of some individuals. To those riders and others who assisted in this incident once again, thanks.

To those who weren't there and are consumed by curiosity, lets just say you would think that a hoodlum who threw a football into a large bunch of racing cyclists would give some consideration to the fact that many police do cycle racing as a sport.  This applicant for "world's dumbest criminal" was totally oblivious to the fact that he was aiming the football at one of his arresting officers.

PRIZE MONEY

With a significant fall in riders entries in the winter months we have had to drop the prise money a little, however it is still fantastic with the handicap winner receiving $150.
