REPORT

Two A Open riders this week in Randwick
Botany members and FRF-NSWIS team members, Robbie Cater and Pete
"The Machine" McDonald. Started the boys 1 minute 30
seconds behind A grade which put them 30 seconds behind B
Grade(B Grade started 1 min behind A). Pete & Robbie
blasted off the line and in an amazing demonstration of power
speed & fitness, they had passed B Grade on the first lap.
In fact they set a blistering first l lap time of 2 mins 46
seconds which if not a 1 lap course record is within
milliseconds as I recollect.. A Grade Club on the other
hand had a fairly average first lap of 3 min 9 seconds allowing
the boys to get back some 23 seconds in one lap. They kept
the pace pretty steady and had pulled back the entire minute and
a half by lap 5. After a couple of lap breather, Pete
launched off the front never to be seen again. Robbie got
a break on the bunch but Dave Walton managed to get on his
wheel. Dave rode extremely strongly to stay with Robbie
for the majority of the race but Robbie was never going to take
Dave up anywhere near his team mate. With about 1 and a half to
go, Robbie attacked Dave and got away. That's how they
finished with Peter first.

Robbie second and Dave Walton third.
There was a peleton sprint for 4th place and that was taken out
by Matty Lucas.

All that Thursday night Track training is
paying off for Brett Douglas as he sprinted clear of the
competition in B grade.

There was mixed emotion from Tony Caruana as
he headed home for easy victory in C Grade. Elation for
winning the event and then dispair when I told him he was now a
B grader. Tony is in training for the Masters Worlds and the
fitness is obvious. I'm not sure too many others of us
will be racing B grade at 70years of age. Congratulations
Tony.

Well we have spoken about the champions and
now it is time to talk about those at the other end of the
spectrum. In what could only be described as a shameful
exhibition, Dave "Jellyfish" Crampton went OTA in about 2 laps
and was even changed into civies before the race was over.
Here he is begging me to stay a member of the "Dream Team"
---NOT !
