REPORT

Without Peter McDonald & Robbie Cater
chasing, A grade was a little more relaxed this week.
Where was Peter? Well he was away at the Australian
Cycling Grand Prix in Ballarat. Congratulations by the way
Peter for taking out Stage 2. Without the "Big Guns" the
boys set a very leisurely pace and in fact B grade was reeling
them in. Then Hendrik Van Calcar had a big dig and they
all had to up the work rate to get Hendrik back. Hendrik
left a little in the tank however and launched off the front
again on the bell lap. All the sprinters looked at each
other not willing to use the energy to chase him down and
more concerned about sprinting off for second place.

Hendrik was able to maintain the gap and take
the victory whilst Matty Lucas and Jules Galli battled it out
for the minor placings whilst Frank Fortuna took 4th place.

An amazing effort by Frank as he is getting
pretty old and hard of hearing.

Got to question this FRF sponsorship thing. We are going to have to reconsider this sponsorship
deal if Frank wants to keep grabbing back the big bucks every
week !! Above, he proudly shows off his winnings.
Just for something different we let Robbie
Cater chase B grade from 2 mins behind this week. He put
the fear of God into them so much so, that they were doing low 3 min
laps for the early part of the race and ended up pulling back
about 30 seconds on the A grade bunch. Robbie cracked
about half way across to them and I must apologise to Robbie as
he seemed to crack right after I told him that he was still 1
min 15 behind. As soon as Robbie became a spectator though
B grade put the brakes on and settled back to 3 min 20 second
laps. A grade started going away again and in the end the
average lap time of both bunches was about the same. The
big news was that Andy Matthews is BACK !!!

Andy has returned to racing after a lengthy
time off the bike and has been steadily climbing his way back up through the grades,
starting back in D, then C and now finally B Grade where he was
a couple of years ago. Andy has always been a great
sprinter and now that he has a bit of fitness back was able to
grab a B grade victory yesterday. He looked pretty happy
with the result.

Dave "Knuckles" Crampton looked pretty happy
with himself also as he crossed the line LAST in B grade.
