Retro Day at Heffron – Saturday 11 Nov 2017

Dear Members,

On behalf of the Committee we wanted to say a huge thanks to each and every one of you that participated in some way shape or form with yesterday’s Retro Day. Whether you were working behind the scenes, on the day setting up, or packing up, helping with registration, canteen, marshalling on the track, taking photos, spectating, racing or just being there, the event wouldn’t have been the success it was without you.

The day was a celebration of cycling at the wonderful facility we have at Heffron Park. The history that was on display yesterday was phenomenal – from old scrapbooks, photos, race results, some amazing old bikes, to some of the original members of our Club. Even though you may not have known some of these people personally, you all played a huge part in allowing our Club to showcase what a special thing we have and to bring some old friends and clubmates together to reminisce late into the afternoon.

To say the day was a success is an understatement and we sincerely thank you all for being a part of something special. I hope you enjoy the album of photos that captured the day and spend some time reflecting on what a great club spirit we have.

We are looking forward to seeing you all at the AGM and Christmas Party next Sunday afternoon.

Kind Regards
Dave, Bert, Shane, Conor, Alex, Rick and Sue

Offer to RBCC Members

We are delighted to announce the following offers from one of our Club Sponsors, Ciclismo. Many of you will know Daniele Vanolini & Anna Murray who have been active members in our club, but maybe you have never been to one of their training sessions. Now is your chance! As part of Ciclismo’s ongoing support of the Club, they are offering all members (beginners through to the experienced) the chance to improve bike handling skills and be safer and more predictable in a bunch. Try a session and then take these skills back to our Club Rides – you will be surprised how much you can learn!!

Commencing next Thursday, 26 October 2017 and continuing on the last Thursday of each month through to March 2018 there will be a free session open to all RBCC members (meeting at 6am at the Showgrounds entrance of Centennial Park, near Robertson & Lang Roads). Please register your interest with daniele@ciclismo.com.au as you will need to complete the necessary waivers. Sessions will last for one hour and you should ensure you have the necessary lights on your bike given the mornings are still a little dark.

For all new members joining RBCC from October Ciclismo would like to make the following offer:
1 x personal session for only $40 (usual price is $80) – an hour of training to prepare you for bunch riding, focusing on sitting on the wheel, bunch etiquette and bike handling skills. Again please register your interest with daniele@ciclismo.com.au

We would like to thank Daniele and Anna from Ciclismo for their generous support of the Club and we hope that members will take up these offers and gain some really important bike handling and bunch riding skills that will be transferable regardless of whether you want to race or just ride recreationally in a group.

Monday 4G/3G ride

A group
This is the main RBCC ride which leaves CP Randwick gates at 6am sharp.
Captain (the ever capable) Morry.
This is mainly  for the stronger riders ie B graders and A graders.
B group – please sms me your mobile number.
This is designed for those C grade and D grade riders not quite up to the A ride pace.
It will leave Hyde Park (college and william) usual spot at 6am  prompt.
The idea is to have a bit of an easy  head start up the highway to Turramurra.
If the A ride catches us we will maintain our B ride pace.
We will not expect them to wait for us at any point but if they wish to slow down they are of course welcome.
It is advisable to choose your group at the beginning and then stay together.
The core B group will stay together and will not chase the A group.
All recruits to the B ride will be waited for at the usual strategic spots ie after each hill.
Make sure you have my phone number 0405554347 and SMS your phone number to me in case of an unusual delay.
The assumption is that you are capable of a 100km ride and have done so fairly recently.
BOTH groups will decide on their 4G options at the Galston summit.
Safety is important at all times:
Please check your tires, air pressures, batteries, cleats etc before you leave.
At traffic light changes the B group will not necessarily chase the A group through if the groups are big.
Do the descents at your own pace as it makes little difference if you are slow.
All riders need to be sure you each have sufficient water, a spare tube, air,  food etc
The front riders of each group will make the call on amber lights so be prepared for both options ie to stop or to roll.
