Juniors Saturday Program – Term 1 for 2018

Welcome back to the new school year, which means the Junior cycling is back on from this Saturday 3 February 2018.  We have exciting plans which RBCC Committee are encouraging and supporting.

Note that Junior Saturday racing will start 1.45pm for warm ups then 2pm with 2 lap Peleton riding then skills and races until 3pm every Saturday weather permitting.  Depending on wind strength and other factors  the planned session may change at the last minute.

Attached is a spreadsheet showing the dates of Junior racing for 2018.  We will be racing on Saturdays during the school term, there will be no junior racing during school holidays and public holiday weekends.2018-SATURDAY RACING Junior Calendar

Also Thursday High Performance session will start on Thursday 8 Feb.  This training is for the juniors that are competing junior races at Heffron and outside Heffron park for example junior tours Goulburn, Port Macquarie State Championship, refer to attached Calendar for dates.  The spreadsheet shows dates of other junior races which the HP juniors will need to attend at least one of them.  The Club has purchased additional indoor trainers for the HP program and will be providing support for the Juniors to attend the Junior Tours and state championship. Sean Bloch will be the HP Coach and I will assist Sean.  There will be some sessions where our President Dave Jackson  (AKA Jacko) will assist if Sean or I are not available.

Typical Saturday Program Includes:

·        2 lap warm up 2 x 2

·        Under 9 year old skills: including braking, cornering, riding on grass, short sprints, shoulder to shoulder, pedaling technique and cadence

·        10-15 year old skills:  sprints, lead outs, breaking away, race tactics, developing skills in preparation to race D  grade and advance skills

 

Saturday Program – Week 1  3 Feb:.

·        2 lap warm up 2 x 2

·        Gearing check including roll out.  Juniors have restrictive gearing so we need to make sure the gearing is appropriate in accordance with CA junior gear ratio requirements.

Saturday Program – Week 2: 10 Feb

·        2 lap warm up 2 x 2

·        All ages – time trial practice followed by 2 lap scratch race

Saturday Program – Week 3:  17 Feb

·        2 lap warm up 2 x 2

·        All ages – one lap time trial followed by 1 lap scratch race then 1 lap handicap

·        Skills if we have enough time

Saturday Program – Week 4: 24 Feb

·        2 lap warm up 2 x 2

·        All ages – Two lap time trial followed by  2 lap handicap

·        Skills if we have enough time

Saturday Program – Week 5: 3 March

·        2 lap warm up 2 x 2

·        Under 9  dual slalom races with sprint finish – mix and match pairs with handicap

·        Over 9, 2 Lap scratch race follow by 2 lap handicap with diversion across grass

·        Skills if we have enough time

Saturday Program – Week 6: 10 March

·        2 lap warm up 2 x 2

·        Under 9  300 m sprints – mix and match pairs with handicap

·        Over 9, 3 Lap scratch race follow by 3 lap handicap with diversion across grass

·        Skills if we have enough time

Saturday Program – Week 7: 17 March

·        2 lap warm up 2 x 2

·        Under 9  dual slalom races with sprint finish on grass – mix and match pairs with handicap

·        Over 9, 4 Lap scratch race with diversion across grass

·        Skills if we have enough time

Saturday Program – Week 8: 24 March – INTERCLUB Invitational may start 1pm finish by 3pm– We will be inviting other Juniors from other clubs to participate in events.  U15 to youngest.

·        2 lap warm up 2 x 2 – allow 15 Minutes

·        All ages start 1.15pm– one lap time trial followed by 1 lap scratch race then 1 lap handicap

·        Team time trial for u13 and u15  4 laps with 4 riders time taken of 3rd rider across finish line.  May change u13 to 3 laps.

·        Prizes awarded and Point System towards overall Junior Club winners.

31 March NO RACING OVER EASTER

Saturday Program – Week 9: 7 April – First Races for Junior Club Championship

·        2 lap warm up 2 x 2 allow 15 Minutes

·        All ages one lap time trial followed by 1 lap scratch race then 1 lap handicap

·        Medal prize Presentation

School Holidays commence 14 April for most some are earlier.  So NO RACING until Saturday 5 May. Term 2 will be slightly different in that races will be longer and sprints included.  Depending on the Term 1 program outcome will influence what we do in the other terms.  It will vary each term.

Also note that each term we are developing race skills so when the juniors get older  they can ride in club training rides and race senior races or reach higher levels such as NRS teams.

The Junior Club Championship will be broken down into 4 race meetings with one meet at the end of each term.  The Junior with the most points at end of Term 4 being awarded the Junior Club Champion, there will also be Runner Up and a Best and Fairest awards.
