I'm shattered! Please tell me it's not true!
I've read a report that cyclists shave their legs for one reason only -
to look and feel good.
How can this be? For years I was under the impression that shaving one's
legs was to increase optimum maximum speed.
I mean everyone is doing it - right?
I don't know about you, but the first thing I do when meeting a fellow
rider for the first time is check on how smoothly shaven their legs are.
This normally gave me an indication on how advanced or how serious a
cyclist my he/she may have been.
There's no denying I look and feel great especially when donning the
figure-hugging lycra - (I digress).
I mean, by having shaved legs and pushing pedals, does this latest
report suggest I have been falsely misled and that having clean pegs has
norhing to do with speed?
But why do the pros shave their legs? To go faster?
What do you mean there is no evidence to suggest aerodynamics plays a
role?
Well, this being the case, I may have to resort to letting the hairs
grow back on those skinny legs of mine.
Tell me, what's scarier - seeing a rider of my calibre with shaved legs
filled with wax and scratch marks in a bid to gain a
performance-enhancing edge, or doing an impersonation of King Kong -
that's what you get from one who is of Mediterranean extraction? At this
time, I think I'll stick to the former.
